SunDude,

The ACOC Replicas Appendix has some 100 CSX/COX/COB 'VIN Asserted' cars, all twenty first century constructions, none AC built. The Club's Cobra registrar regularly adds to the list.

As Council so wisely wrote twenty years ago 'The prime beneficiaries of an accurate register are not today’s owners, but tomorrow’s. A full and accurate register can show a potential purchaser the facts about a car he is proposing to buy: it will also allow an owner to confirm his car’s true provenance and prevent an unscrupulous owner or dealer distorting a car’s history to enhance its value.'

Perhaps European forum readers can help with VIN asserted?

SunDude,

Do you know the car’s VIN (car number in AC terms)?

I wonder what a 'Bona Fide' Non member is, as against a Non Bona Fide member?, surely all non members are Bona Fide in being genuine non members.

Gary, a 'bona fide' non-member is one with a legitimate enquiry (no deception, no self-interest etc), from the Latin 'good faith' meaning. This legitimacy requirement was first stated by Council over twenty tears ago (31 Jan 2002): 'To provide enquirers with a car’s historical information, subject to the enquirer having legitimate reason'.

All members and bona-fide non-members can get Council’s RP&G (ACOC Registrar Policies and Guidance) from any registrar or Council member.

"Not to pass judgement, and to include adverse as well positive information" has been Council’s written policy since January 2002.

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / Re: AC Cobra for sale

The AC Factory Ledger (aka ‘the bible’) only records LHD car number COX6003, ex works 26 November 1963 consigned to Paris agent A Chardonnet.

The advertised RHD car (XBH 545B, DVLA ‘vehicle details could not be found’) was not manufactured by AC in Thames Ditton in period. Searches of published ACOC & SAAC Cobra registers show no record of Eric James and Cliff Davis owning a leaf spring period AC or Shelby Cobra.

SunDude,

I don’t believe there’s a suggestion that AKNN are Thames Ditton Cobras. The MkIV etc forum has more knowledgeable post-60s product posters.

September ACtion's Cobra Corner describes the ninth EF chassis, built by AC with engine and transmission for a UK agent. This post is to advise AC arcana enthusiasts.

SunDude,

This month’s ACtion, at the printer, has an excellent EFX article and my AC Factory Ledger (aka ‘The Bible’) copy has an EFX section. The referred-to conversation may have been been misinformed.

James,

The Cobra Register introduction (ACOC website members area) reads:
Other Similar Chassis
AC made a further 98 Thames Ditton coil-spring chassis of similar design to the Cobra, but generally with longer wheelbases. They comprised:
•   81 AC 428 96” wheelbase chassis (see 428 Frua Register)
•   8 Electric Fuel Propulsion 90” chassis (EFX 501 to EFX 508)
•   5 Paramount Film chassis (three 135” and two 117”) for the film Monte Carlo or Bust (COB6128 to COB6132)
•   2 Ghia convertible chassis (CSX 5001 and CSX 5002)
•   One 96” Ghia chassis (CS3063)
•   One 428-type chassis (believed to be 96”) for Cam Classic Automotive Inc USA (MX-1).

AC made their own chassis: cutting and grinding was an in-house activity.

Sundude,

The ACOC Cobra register records this as the original CSX2016, imported into the UK in 2011 by Peter Bradfield.

ACOC Cobra register appendix 2.1 (Replica Leaf Spring Cars) records a replica CSX2016 made circa 2012 reg 111 JX "Constructor unknown. Fast-back hardtop, short bottom-hinged boot, cut back doors, six-point roll cage, Rose-jointed, 6.5"/8.5" Halibrands, side vents, rack & pinion.  FIA HTP."

Both cars have the same last known owner.

The SAAC Register has further public domain detail.

Not a single owner of the AC brand has prospered in the last forty years and not a single 21st century press-release promise has ever been realised. The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but it's the only way to bet.

May's forthcoming announcement is awaited with interest.

General Forum / Re: AC Cobra Ghia 1965
« on: March 30, 2022, 16:17:24 »
Nothing has been heard of the CSX3063 Ghia since 1966.

The ACOC classifies it as destroyed by parting out in 66 or shortly thereafter, with no trace of the Ghia bodywork since having been seen since. A replica 427 numbered CSX3063, US constructed forty-five years later, remains in the US.

CSX3063 is the car number, exclusive of RS typos.

Car number, AC’s then Factory Ledger term, is the equivalent of today’s VIN. There’s only one VIN worldwide, only one BEX333 worldwide and only one CSX3063 worldwide. ‘Car number asserted’ is more generous for both Aces and Cobras, as per ACtion’s recent article.
