Which probably means it's sitting in a shipping container somewhere in darkest Surrey. (Some would say it's the best place for it. I, of course, couldn't possibly comment)

Just when I thought my mind couldn't be boggled any more.....only wish I could understand the half of it, but I'm no multi-talented engineer. The stuff of nightmares - you couldn't make it up.

I may be totally wrong, but I always had the impression that the 289 Sports were built to use up the remaining parts that AC had lying around the place once the 427 went south. There never was a 'definitive' parts list, they used what they had. Hence some unusual engines etc found their way into the cars.....tis the joy of a handmade, bespoke automobile, with all its faults and foibles.

Oh Rob, you have to put up with some rubbish scenery in NZ! Now if only you can find a way to make the door stay shut...

I have tried Autosport/Motorsport/BDRC etc. but no luck. Perhaps someone in the Club wouls know something even after all these years? Anything would be appreciated.

   Hi Bill

As someone who has tried to research the Cobra for many years (I began writing my first book on the cars in 1979) I know how hard it can be to unearth photos. Sadly I was never able to travel to Silverstone to photograph the Cobras racing in that period and almost all my photos were shot at Brands and other events south of the Thames.
The best source of old photos is usually Ted Walker of Ferret Fotos who attends a lot of the larger events such as the classic car shows at the NEC and the Goodwood Revival. He buys old negatives and prints them as 10x8s and sells them at the events. You could try getting in touch but he would need to know races and dates before searching. I tend to buy prints of Cobras I've not seen before and I can confirm that I've never seen a photo of 6030, sadly. There a re few other dealers in old motoring photos but for them to unearth anything, they need the right sort of information.
As you have discovered, magazines and larger museums etc are of little or no use any more.
If I can think of any likely source I will get back to you. How is 6030 these days..?

   best regards

At that's the photo to which I referred. Taken in Derek Hurlock's back garden in Thames Ditton I believe (correct me if I'm wrong)

I guess when you buy your 289 body from Poland, you get side vent holes....

But I agree - it just don't look right. I reproduced a period photo of 2030 in my first Cobra book, and it did not look like that!

Ah, a rebate!! Sensible idea. Probably running somewhere north of the price paid if you take time into consideration. I'm sure it would be looked upon kindly, as is only fair. Now - where to send the invoice??

The story seems to have dragged on longer than all the blasted Harry Potter books. Only difference is: you could never have made this up!! (Unless you were on heavy-duty narcotics)

Could it be the owner is an idiot? Or a fantasist? Or maybe the lure of $$$$$$$$ comes into play :)

But as we all know, every single fake 'Cobra' ever made is a '1965 Shelby Cobra'. It's the default setting.

More than a whiff of proper Superformance about the nose area. Rear arches are a little 'odd'. It is to a Thames Ditton-made Cobra what the Queen Mum was long distance lorry driving.
