Hello Eddie,

Again I am no expert, but I don’t think you check the ignition timing on the flywheel.
I think it is on the front pulley, the one that drives the water pump.
There should be a mark for Top dead centre and one for (I think 10 degrees before) top dead centre.

Make sure number one cylinder is at Top dead by removing the sparkplug. Then wind the engine backwards to the 10 degree mark.(or guess it). Then use a light or multi meter to set the distributor till the light just goes out. Lock it up then run the car to get warm.

With a strob light you should see the mark on the pulley move anti-clockwise as you rev up the engine. It should move round relatively to the engine speed. More revs the more the mark will move.

Hello Paul,

It’s nice to hear that you intend to use and enjoy the car.

I agree, sitting very pretty.

Glad to see your keeping busy over the festive season Gary.
Looks like a neat job but not sure I’d bother with the perspex though as brake parts are all cast so not well fettled and out of sight behind the wheels anyway.
That said it is your car and you are doing some impressive work with it so don’t let me stop you.
I am cleaning up the engine bay on a Vauxhall Chevette so that is my excuse for dodging the family.

In all honesty I don’t know the relative numbers. The way I do it now is the way I learnt from my Daimler days.
It is important that both timing and carburettor tuning are done together or knowing that one is correct before setting the other.  Run the engine up to temperature, set the RPM to around 2500/3000. Loosen the distributor clamp and turn the distributor body too and fro to reach the highest rev rate then clamp the body up tight. Job done.

Neither wishing to put coal on the fire or dowse it down,

The sprint may only have a few AC’s participating but how many go to watch / support.
The location is hardly central but regarded as a quality venue
A National /Track day may well suit car owners but not necessarily their entourage.
Would different tracks be used each year as like a national ?

Personally I like the idea of the sprint but feel it is not for me as its a long way to go in a pre war AC from the north not to be able to go on track. It may be too much of an ask to allow none competing AC track time in order so more would wish to attend. It does involve a vast expense to visit for many that are not close.

Can the Sprint be considered to be like Opera. Generally only patronised by the few but supported with money from the masses due to its cultural importance.

I would use a good quality 20W50. If your motor is well worn hough, to the point of not long before a rebuild is required, you are probably better with a straight 40.

Well done for bringing it to our attention. I have never been good with dates and need reminding about that sort of thing.
Well done as well for updating yours and letting us see it stage by stage. I think it looks really good.
As for forum or Action, both formats are needed to cover all tastes. It’s a shame some miss out by not seeing and submitting to both.

Psjsam, sadly I won’t be able to go. Apart from other commitments its a little out of my way anyway considered I live in Leeds.
Didn’t want you thinking that your all alone on the forum as well as at the Salon. Please go and have a good time while representing the AC brand.

Sorry I can’t help with the info but if you can get it working it looks like it will be a good bit of kit to have. I presume the different pots are for different grades of grease. It looks like it would be an interesting piece to adorn a collector’s shelves.

I got a loom for my 1935  16/66 DHC from Autosparks and it was useless. I agreed to work with them to make one that suited my rebuilt car. After I did so and them agreeing to wrap for free they then charged me for the whole loom again. Needless to say I dont have a good word for Autosparks and would advise people with a PVT to stay clear of them.
I am on holiday at the moment but when I get home I am happy to let you have the drawings that I made up. They may be specific to my car but they may be more representative of a DHC 16/60 or 70 than the one available on the web currently.

Sorry for going off at a slight tangent, but here goes.
The magazine is put together by Terry and he does a great job in my opinion. The fact is though that one of the things that is always repeated is the appeal for content. The Mag can only be as good as the support all the moaners give.
Pull you fingers out and support rather than moan.

The hard top shot has a BMW 507ish look about it. Or am I talking my usual manure. Any way it looks nice.
