Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / 16/66 Spinners
« on: March 05, 2019, 19:46:56 »
Hello everyone,
Does anyone out there have a left spinner (right hand thread)going spare.
Used sat on a shelf wasting away, curled corners, tarnished chrome, no chrome is not a problem so long as it is usable. It is required to hold the spare wheel on.
The four I have are in a very poor state but usable so later in the resto they will all be renewed.
That said if there are any out there that are a reasonable set then I would be interested.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Bendix brakes
« on: December 27, 2018, 20:58:52 »
Seasons greetings fellow AC er’s.

I have reached the point of building up the brakes on my 1935 16/66 rebuild. Sadly the copy of the manual I have is very poorly copied and unreadable. I would like to get hold of a legible copy. Can anyone suggest where to get one, I believe the club reprints only do the handbooks which don’t go into as much depth. My searches on the web have proved fruitless.

Thanks in anticipation,

Colin

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Chassis paint
« on: October 04, 2018, 16:28:37 »
I am working on a 16/66 and have reached the point of addressing the chassis. I will be having it blasted to save on hours of slave labour but am still undecided on the finish.
Powder coating is easy but for originality I am edging toward paint.
Can anyone advise on quality products and suppliers preferably in the north.

AC Weller Engine / Start up
« on: September 25, 2018, 17:34:01 »
The engine from my 16/66 has been rebuilt. It was in a shocking state of neglect and proved to have been bodged and abused before the neglect. Absolutely everything on the engine has been worked on from white metalling to new water jacket. At least some progress has been made towards the completion of the cars restoration.
The video of the start up is on YouTube.

Went to Finghall Village Fete today and the classic car gathering at Russ Swifts. Lovely collection of cars and people, a good pub lunch and perfect weather. Picked all the country back roads to avoid the bank holiday traffic and enjoyed the day thoroughly. Thank you Russ and the many other volunteers for your efforts.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Carburettor insulators
« on: May 19, 2018, 21:23:32 »
Can anyone advise if insulators were fitted to cars between the carburettors and the manifolds on PVT models. On many if not most post war cars with SU's carbs, an insulating spacer was fitted to stop heat transfer and vaporisation. I have had the carbs refurbished by Burlen but no such items have been supplied with the gasket sets. The car had no spacers to start with and I think this is correct.
If someone can confirm it would help the cause.

Thanks

Colin.

ACOC News and Events / NEC stand.
« on: November 10, 2017, 21:17:43 »
I went to the show today and was looking forward to my first visit as a club member to the stand.
I was sadly disappointed. Four cars that frankly didn't stand out from any of the other Cobras at the show real or fake. Why four Of the same cars were put corner to corner is questionable and frankly boring. A lack of imagination is apparent. I was also left feeling deflated due to the lack of regalia on offer, absolutely nothing.
At least I did manage to pick up a Grayhound radiator Mascot from one of the autojumble stands.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / ENV gearbox
« on: September 23, 2017, 19:40:38 »
Can anyone advise if there is a manual available for a 1934 AC-ENV four speed gear box. I intent inspecting and servicing both the gear box and back axle at some point during the restoration of my car. I see that there is some info for the axle on the Two litre web site which looks helpful but I can't find anything related to the diff or the box.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Body building
« on: September 17, 2017, 22:45:11 »
I have plans tomorrow, Monday, to visit a coach builder in order to discuss the attributes of a new body for my 16/66DHC.
I really am in between a rock and a hard place at the moment as to replace or to repair..
My intentions are to visit there work place first,  get a feel for the place and then ask them to visit me to assess the car.
Any advice on what questions I should be asking would be welcome at this point.

   Kind Regards

   Colin.

AC Weller Engine / Engines out
« on: July 05, 2017, 22:09:09 »
I have just embarked on the rebuild of my engine. The car it comes from is a 1935 16/66 DHC which stood for more than 30 years in a garage (not a barn) I had the motor running initially before removing to see if I could ascertain what was in store. It looked promising and so was thinking it would be straight forward. There was however evidence of frost damage being repaired many years previously but it looked like a really good repair and the fact that the engine held water and the oil did not emulsify looked encouraging.
Sad to say it is a bag of nails that needs total rebuild, water jacket, white metal bearings, liners, pistons, crank, cam, valves, the lot are all useless. I now see why it was put in the garage and left.
Needless to say I am now a little deflated and dreading the expenses to be had.
Wish me luck Gents and spare a thought if you have any parts that you want to of load for next to nothing so another PVT can be seen again in a few years time.
