Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Re: ABS ECU more news

Hi Paul,
It appears to be Teves Mk II. I had the hood ECU checked out by a firm down south, Portsmouth I think. It came back with a clean bill of health. The pump motor is fine and the hydraulic system appears to be leak free with fluid at the correct level. Once I get organised enough, I'll go through the various micro switches......

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / ABS ECU more news

Delighted to say that the ABS is now fully functional! After replacing the pump, module and ECU, plus reluctor rings and associated bits, it turned out that the wiring to the wheel sensors was the wrong way round i.e. left went to right wheel sensor and vice versa, apparently going back to when the car was built....
One bonus to it all is that there is now a red hood light showing on starting the car- it's only there briefly after flashing on and off a couple of times but at least there's a sign of life! I've tried to operate the hood but nothing happens and there's no further red light activity. Next thing is to check/replace the micro switches to see if that helps. Any ideas anyone?

BINGO! Thanks to the very knowledgeable owners of Ace Brooklands, my ABS is now fully functional! The ABS ECU and associated diagnostic bits are indeed behind the heater box, beautifully hidden away just to make the job that little bit more interesting! Everything checked out part from a broken wire which was the root cause of the problem. Thank you everyone, especially Paho! I might even treat myself to a celebratory beer or three this evening! :)

Next task, get the hood electrics operational once more!

Hi Paul,
Many thanks once again for your considerable input! At present the Ace is in a local garage being checked over by a retired Ford mechanic with particular expertise in ABS breaking systems. The valve block and pump are working correctly and the wheel sensors are all producing a signal. The ABS light stays on all the time. There's an ABS control module somewhere, but so far we haven't found it - it's suspected that it might be faulty. Do you perhaps know where it's hidden? One possibility is behind the dash on the driver's side - we're going to give that a try today.
I've printed off some of the wiring sheets but they mean nothing to me - I'm used to old fashioned wiring diagrams!
Hopefully I'll be able to report some progress today......

Hi Adrian,

Just discovered your post re: the Ace Brooklands wiring diagram. Is it possible to get hold of a copy please? I'm trying to locate the ABS ECU......

Kind regards,

Patrick Moynihan.

Gosh! Thank you for the photos and the explanation! I'm going to try going back to basics by starting at the ignition switch and then working on from there. The power hood warning light doesn't do anything at present so I suppose simple voltage checks along the route to the rear of the car would be a good start. I'll post my findings as the search progresses!

I shall be selling my Ace before too long - DE1034 built in 1995. Usual corrosion on seams, hood doesn't work but the ECU and motor both check out as good, new mohair hood, Had a bodywork refresh in 2015 I think, to the tune of £20000. Mechanically good, quite a selection of spares some new old stock. Redline sports exhaust. Ford Tourmaline green metallic, green and Ascot grey upholstery. Approximately 50000 miles recorded. Original Owners' handbook with car. Two owners from new, myself for the past twenty-one years. All MOTs available. Reg 2874 AC included, valued at £3000. Offers around £19000 invited.

As I need to now move the car on as I need the garage space for a Jaguar XJ8 SEL, I'm open to offers. I can be reached either through the Forum or via pandbmoynihan@yahoo.co.uk

Does anyone know where all of the hood microswitches are located please? I know there's one on the handbrake and another one on the driver's side hoodframe but I'm guessing that there are more hiding away somewhere! Any help most welcome and appreciated!

Hi Paho,
Many thanks for your reply and links to past answers! Apologies also for the lateness of my reply - simply forgot which is really no excuse at all when you've taken the trouble to help me.
It was very interesting to read that the spring coils are too close together on the rear springs - it certainly helps explain why the back end makes so many thumping noises when the road isn't as smooth as glass!
Do you know if the springs were tailored to the Ace or were they just picked off the shelf somewhere, maybe XJS or similar?
Once again, grateful thanks!

Mine turned our to be a faulty ignition switch on the steering column! Replace it with a Ford Transit one and it's been fine ever since!
