Congratulations and welcome to the AC community. The seats have a nice patina - leave them as they are if they are not damaged (what cann´t be judged from the photos).

General Forum / Carroll Shelby dies at the age of 89

I´m happy I met him and the guys of the Shelby American Team in Boulder, Colorado. I can´t imagine that the stories of those guys will be forgotten. RIP, Carroll. http://www.shelbyamerican.com/

Thanks for the pictures! As far as I remember in one of the many Cobra book is told that Phil Remington welded a manifold similar to that in CSX 2021. Maybe it´s the one shown in the August 1962 Sports car Graphic centrefold. If the drawing was made using a real "model" - it must have been CSX 2000. Didn´t CSX 2000 had the inside brakes? Maybe the cutaway drawing was made by drawings or the engine was taken from a photo like the one avove on the bench. At that time - if I remember right - no downdraught Webers were available, that´s why thi strange kind of manifold was designed and manifactured. What I didn´t know is that there was an casted manifold available. Michael

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. Do you have any information about the carburettors and inlet manifold on car #68?

As you know, I am another one to appreciate your excellent job on the magazine, Terry. Go on and - good things need time ... Just a remark to Heiner Schaefer´s Cobra 50 article: The confirmed Coupe isn´t a Cobra Daytona Coupe that will attend the meeting, but one of the one-off Coupes build on a Cobra chassis. Surprise, surprise ... Michael

Indeed - the asking price and the sales prices are two different things. The last AC Cobra sold in germany was a Lightweight in excellent condition with uprated engine - it was sold for 100 k€ last year. The owner sold it because he was tired of being asked: "Is it an original?".

When I first heard about and saw the Perano I was flashed by the beauty of the car and when I realized that the price was announced at € 50.000,--, I immediately applied for one on the Zagato webside. When the new price was announced later - € 80.000,-- - my ambitions immediately cooled down. My understnading at that time was that they struggled to get the cars homologated for certain markets - including the german market.

   Dear Michael,

October 2011 will go down as memorable and as a watershed in the annals of Perana history. This is the month that will be remembered as the month when the first Perana was delivered to an enduring and deserving Perana Enthusiast. We will include some photos of the occasion in our next newsletter as we are extremely proud to share this special moment with you.

Furthermore, Perana will be hosted on the Proudly South Africa stand at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) from 06 to 16 October 2011. We look forward to your visit at JIMS.
   How have we progressed?

Since we last communicated, further technical enhancements have been made with the biggest single improvement being the design of a bespoke and inclusion of a CAN-BUS system. CAN (Controller Area Network) BUS allows for the integration of many vehicle sub-systems where a state of the art host processor interprets and decides on priorities for a multitude of messages in an integrated platform so that vehicle sub-systems can communicate without a host computer. This integration allows for greater functionality through improved specification and relative weight reduction via fewer harness wires. The introduction of CAN-BUS offers enormous value to Perana drivers, without incremental cost, a wonderful enhancement whilst we endured the frustration of waiting for an emission compliant engine package. Unfortunately, our launch into European markets continues to be delayed until we are able to supply engines that meet with Euro V emission standards. Until this hurdle is crossed we are not able to complete homologation for Europe.
   Where to from here?
   USA

Lance Stander and his Team at Superformance Distributors are also eagerly awaiting their first cars which are currently in build. Deliveries can be expected during November.
   UK

A demonstration unit is expected to be in the UK by the end of October for viewing and evaluation by prospective Dealers.
   South Africa

Mike Bruce and his Team at Investment Cars receive their first cars this week. One car will be on display at JIMS from 06 October to 16 October 2011. Orders can be placed with Investment Cars with delivery times at present being approximately three months. Production for South Africa is limited, so we recommend that you place your order.

Stay in touch with developments and our progress by visiting Perana.com.

   Until we next meet.

   Yours sincerely,
   Andreas Walker

It was clear from the beginning that Superformance was the manufacturer of the Perana. The new price of € 110.000,-- is as astonishing as the the fact that the car has an AC badge. It would have been less surprising, when Carroll would have put his label on the car to make it the true and legitimite follower of the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe.

General Forum / Shelby Cobra 50 Years - new book
« on: October 06, 2011, 11:04:05 »
It´s just an other indication of the totally different point of view of the Americans and the Europeans about the Cobras.
To the Americans it´s just a work of Shelby (yes, he is responsible for making them a legend) - for the Europeans it´s a British car. To the Americans, the cars from the Angliss era are just another branch of the many Cobra replicas.
However, the cover of the book is nice, the price is not too high and it is a hard-cover book (you can´t call a soft-cover a book). It will look good in the bookcase and maybe it´s interesting to find out if there are any new facts be be read.

I think 'Michael Cassel' is an anogram of Angelina Joile (but I was always c**p at anograms..)

You'll be able to tell him if he brings his MkIV to a Cobra meeting. [;)][;)]

I´m still thinking about my identity. Am I Angelina? Am I Anna Gram? Will let you know my coming out ...
My unknown identity looked at it´s cell phone and yes, Kay Hafner is part of the adressbook. However - I know other ones contributing this forum who know him better ...

Just to make a statement - a suitable ground for a continental meeting would be the "Green Hell" or Spa Francorchamps or any other historic Cobra battle field. Accomodations wouldn´t be a problem around the green hell.

Probably there will be several meetings in the US. Lynn P. told me, he intends to organize two meetings. Cobra´s will be featured at Goodwood and Monterey and I guess there will be many more events featuring Cobras. SAAC, Shelby American Museum, ...

   Best.

   Angie, Anna and  schizophrenic friends
(will put on my favourite T-shirt for the fifties anniversary meeting - front side: "I am schizophrenic"; back side: "Me, too")

What is your opinion?

   Hallo!

   Gruss
