Gus, Those chrome hood locks are the same as used on the spare tire door on the back of a TR2,TR3, TR3A etc. Buy from Moss or Victoria British,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bernie

PS. You missed "The Battle of the Brits" car show last Sunday at St Marys' college in Orchard Lake. Over 400 British cars and 300 motorcycles, plus vendors and food. Three ACE Bristols were there, mine, Paul Norocky, and Jeremy Goddard's. Go next year, you wont be disappointed.

Jim,   Thanks for the lead to the racing cars site. Yup, I looked throughly thru all the info until my eyes are blurred. Like everyone else, I didnt find my BEX494, and didnt really expect to, but what a neat way to spend a few hours when one cant sleep.,,,,,,Bernie, Michigan

Gus, I just read your message about the Aceca, that car used to live here in the Detroit area until two years ago. The guy that owned it never did any repairs except to keep it running. It was a participant at "The Battle of the Brits" car show every September. I was always curious what Northshore wanted for it. It needs everything.,,,,,,,,,,,Bernie

This is an ad from Northshore motorsports in Illinois, USA.
The car is tired to say the least, but looks like it really needs a full resto. ASking price is $95.000. Looks like the Acecas are enjoying, albeit at a lesser rate, the same boom the Aces are experiencing. Makes me wonder why some of the car mags still rate an excellent condition Aceca at around 27.000 pounds. Does anyone have a more realistic handle on what current Aceca values are? They don't come up for sale very often.

Jay,
If Peters drawings or info is not enough, I can take photos of my gas filler location so you can visually see everything. My Ace is currently up on stands with the wheels removed so pictures are easy to get.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Re-assy questions
« on: December 27, 2007, 16:36:12 »
Jay, The flat rubber I used for the lights is nearly the same thickness as the repo rubber gaskets. I cut them using an Exacto knife from my model airplane years. My body is realtively flat around the lights so little gap is visable. This car was stored for 43+years with no body damage in the rear. I would think that my bonnet locks are probably on backwards considering what all the other responders have reported. I'm just going by the small witness marks left in the aluminum.

Jay, 1). The bonnet locks on my BEX494 have the hinge towards the windscreen. They left witness marks in the aluminum so it wasnt hard to tell how they mounted.
2). Weatherstripping is usually on the door, and on the body for the boot & bonnet, BUT, you'll see it both ways. My door seals are on the body as I couldnt keep them attached to the door especially under the front top edge that "slides over" the cowling on each side as you close the door.
3). I hand cut rubber gaskets for the taillights and like them better than any repo's I've seen.
4). Cant really answer your question, except to say that windshield wiper units are readily avail & fairly cheap. An MGA unit should interchange.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BEX339 for sale
« on: October 17, 2007, 03:08:39 »
Well, I was at the Kruse auction specifically to watch this car cross the block, and I commented on it in Octobers ACtion. I'm slightly puzzled as the auctioneer congradulated "Mark from St Louis" and told the audience it was going to a great restoration shop there. I guess anythings possible in the auction world. The current sellers idea of a "just paint it and drive" is far different from mine. The photos dont show the numerious dings & dents all over. Looks like the two big ones were slightly bumped-out to look presentable. It needs lots of work, I wouldnt trust 35 year old brakes. I wish the owner good luck at the next auction, wonder what kind of reserve he has on it,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bernie

Peter, Nice to here yours is finally running properly.Tell me what jet sizes you ended up with, I'm just comparing notes here. Where did you get the various jets you used?, my supplier guy has retired and closed up shop here in Detroit, he was tired of rebuilding carbs for 35 years and went to Florida. Yup, they'll pull like crazy once you stuff the throttle into the kitchen and give that long stroke bastard some rpm's. I dont drive mine hard, but I think its going to get a new clutch this winter, its the original disc.  Regards, Bernie

Peter, Sorry, I missed that you already installed the electronic ign, I just reread ALL the postings, I must be getting brain dead since retirement. Think I'll go out to the garage and chain whip my MGA for punishment.
