Thames Ditton advised me March /97 "Should thermostat need to be replaced, fit aluminium washer to indentation in housing top face and size accordingly for a Ford bellows type replacement."
   
   This advice is basically what Luke advised except for the additional info re the Ford replacement.
   
   The markings on my original thermostat were "Smiths 3065/8 78C 172F."

   Thanks for taking time and effort to find your old patterns.
   
   It makes sense that the split should be at the top as that is where it can be secured on 3 sides rather than just 2 if it was divided from the bottom.
   Leaving the bottom undivided prevents unnecessary flapping.

   Thanks but it is the rubber sheet material covering the opening through which the road spring protrudes to the road wheel hub, brake drum (disc) etc, above where the A arm connects to the chassis.
   
    Luke's photo shows that opening immediately above the A arm and the sawhorse and correctly refers to it in his para 2. I do think however, that Aces, Acecas and 2.6s produced both before and after 1959 also had these shields/curtains fitted.
   
   I wish I could post a photo but I am not capable.

Upon further investigation, Girling Bulletin No. 501.T.108, dated Feb /59, shows the lining on the bottom shoe (leading shoe) set to the rear or adjuster end of the shoe and the top shoe (trailing shoe) set to the front or cylinder end of the shoe. It would therefore suggest that my shoe arrangement is correct.

I have asked Nik if he would kindly post a photo of my NS rear brake shoes and cylinder prior to be removed for the Power Track supplied cylinder. I can only assume they went back on correctly.
   I continue to stop as I should!

Power Track Ltd in the UK successfully supplied my Ace (AEX1194) 2 years ago with replacement rear wheel brake cylinders. They are knock off Girlings made by County and  continue to operate successfully, not leaking and the car continues to stop. Google will bring up their contact details.
   
   If you let me have your email address, I will send you pictures or alternatively, I could send them to Nik if it is of sufficient wide Forum interest. Nik has been very patient and generous in the past and has posted for me on the Forum as I am incapable of doing so.

   I have a short L shaped breather directed downwards on my dynamo blanking plate as well but the cam cover breather takes care the fume excess from the top end, which is pretty minimal.
   
   It helps to keep the engine bay dry, especially the wiring.

This post is a good example of why we should simplify the method of posting photos on the Forum, the result being greater response to Forum enquiries.
   
   I have tried valiantly over the years to do so but it is still far too complicated for me and I think many others. In this particular post, I have emailed DHAceca and suggested he send me his email address  at which point I would be delighted to forward him a couple of photos.
   
   I think I am correct, but I recollect ACOC requested coments at time of this years renewal of membership for improvements and suggestions. Accordingly, I requested a photo posting simplification but have seen nothing so far re this issue.

Burlen supplied me for CLBN 2476,  SU needle set AUD 1158  DW as being  correct and I have had no problems since fitting in /95.

General Forum / ACOC on Facebook

I for one will never have a Facebook account (harumph), but I certainly have no objection to the ACOC posting on this form of communication.
   
   The only caveat for me would be that anything posted on Facebook should be first posted on our own Forum, ie nothing going out there might be unknown to some of the ACOC membership.

   I would love to attend but regrettably not able to do so.
   
   If I am permitted as a non attendee, the topics that would be of great interest to me are the effects on our engines of unleaded ethanol fuels, contemporary anti freeze and engine oils lacking in the Z (?) additive and what to do about it.

Apolgies to Lyle, owner of BEX437 with my typo of Lyle's sirname which is Johanson.
   
   I look forward to visiting Lyle shortly in West Vancouver and will ask him about further history and early photos etc. As I am not capable of posting images, I will email them to possibly Keith for him to do that task.

News Flash
   
   BEX 437 is found and is residing in West Vancouver after being barn stored since 1972. It has  been owned since then by Lyle Johanson who I met yesterday at the All British Field Meet yesterday in Vancouver. He advises that he drove the car for 2 years after puchase and then retired BEX 437 to a barn at his vineyard in the Okanagan Valley. He has changed  nothing with since his purchase and it still has the Chev 327 engine that he presumes Bob Constabaris installed for racing at Westwood etc. The second owner prior to Lyle Hanson was the installer of the flares and other mods.
   
   Lyle has kindly invited me to come and see BEX 437 plus some early racing pictures while owned by Bob Constabaris. I will do so shortly.
