Sold in just over 24 hours. Bought by an enthusiast who used to own a coupe.

I'm putting CF25 up for sale.

In my ownership I've had the engine rebuilt, braking system and suspension overhauled, new hood. The interior is good - character not knackered. Body/paintwork could be improved.

Hard to put a price on it so I'll start at o.i.r.o £150,000

It'll be listed on various online sites - Goodwood Revival is just down the road from me so timing might be right...

428 Frua Forum / The best and worst qualities of the 428....?
« on: May 25, 2017, 21:05:32 »
Well this forum has been rather quiet of late so I guess I'll chip in.
   1-. Engine cooling is the worst feature, or rather, the lack of. AC knew this and deleted oil temp gauges from the cars as a result. Basically on the auto cars there's nowhere for the heat to go.
   I've seen the dog bowl-propped bonnet story and fans installed in the wings to release the heat.
   Having had total head gasket failure after a 'professional' engine rebuild at £xxxxx expense, this year I've now found some blokes in a local garage who look at the problem not the value of the car and wallet of its owner. They have discovered that the fan was blowing out not in! The crankshaft had wear due to dirt in the reassembly, the fan thermostat was not working properly and the carb was totally out of balance. So the whole thing has come apart again and been rebuilt.
   I've taken to the dark side and gone for Evans coolant. Early test runs show everything looking good with temp gauge at 90 degrees. All for just over £xxx. So fingers crossed I hope to be able to use it after nearly two years off the road.

   1+ What's great about the 428 is the combination of styling, engineering and power. Frua's design, AC's chassis and Ford's lump make for a magic combination.
   Motor cognoscenti have massive respect for the 428.

   Other pluses;
   2. simple effective build- Good brakes, great handling, obvious mechanics.
   3. parts - surprisingly available if you know where to look (and with under 100 on the road demand is limited).
   4. Exclusivity - 29 convertible, 51 coupe.
   5. Was cheap, now not so cheap but arguably still undervalued.

   Other minuses;
   2. that body wants to rust - after all it's 1960/70's Italian.
   3. the ignoscenti call it a Cobra. One has to explain, preferably with a diagram.
   4. Position of foot pedals is annoyingly offset to the left.
   5. If you want one you're going to have to wait and be ready with a fair old chunk of cash.

I spoke to them yesterday. The company is CollierWebb in Eastbourne. They do recall making the badges for Peder and i so hopefully can now find the moulds.

Try Thunder Road Speedshop. They've been sorting these cars for years.

Siegfreid, only you and Great Dane showed any interest. I gave him the details of the maher and he did contact them (as they seemed unclear as where they had put the moulds) - I'm not sure if he got his badge though.

428 Frua Forum / How many 428's?
« on: February 15, 2016, 12:41:49 »
Well a study of your database and what's appeared online in recent years would suggest a fair chance of the following numbers;

   25 / 29 convertibles and 43 / 50 coupes. Plus the three prototype cars.

   Of the missing cars one is a known write off and seven have turned into Cobras (so I guess theoretically could be returned to 428 form working on the theory that a good 428 is now worth more than a dodgy cobra?)

   That leaves CF8 conv and CFX 10 & 61 coupes on the missing list. All others have appeared in some way or other in the past ten years or so.

   As to where they are? Well cars move about - I know for certain that three went to the Middle East in recent years. But based on last known location we'd get;

   UK 11 / 23
   US and Canada 8 / 11
   Continental Europe 5 / 7
   Middle East 1 / 2

All sorted and now running in. Took a long time for some of the parts to be sourced with some delays whilst enough orders were amassed to warrant manufacturing.
   Manifold was repaired but I'd be very interested in one of your newly designed versions.
   Had some initial problems running in as the fuel line was getting so hot that the petrol eengine to cut out even at speed. Some insulation wrap has fixed that.
   Just need to put a couple of hundred miles on it before changing to a heavier oil which should give cooler running.

Still here, engine and gearbox rebuilt and back in the car but now the brake servo has gone so running-in is on hold.

   I'll check my junk mail as nothing has come through. I did email Great Dane so maybe the internal system is awry.

I was waiting to see how many were wanted before placing an order. Great Dane - so far you are the only person wanting one.
   The cost price for one is likely to be around £200. Email me directly and I'll let you have the contact details for the tooling shop.

   In response to Emanuel's plea for some posts here's a pic of my ongoing engine rebuild.
   Hardy Engineering have rebuilt the gearbox.
   Thunder Road are sorting the engine with Edelbrock heads and as a result and I quote 'the original equipment rockers and push rods, will not work with the Edelbrok heads, so we need to go the aftermarket route. Unfortunately the rockers i was planning on using, are no longer in production. Apparently they stopped making the at the beginning of last year.
      I have found a replacement manufacturer in the states, and it looks like they are the only people manufacturing rockers for your engine, I now need to work out the correct push rod length, I also need to source, or have made, some spacer to go between the rockers and rocker posts, for the inlet valves, Edelbrok recommend, that the inlet rockers are off set, because they have move the position of the inlet valves in the head, compared to the original position, in the ford heads.'
   That was back in February. We are now at 'supplier is finding out if we need the spacers for the rockers, recommended by the head manufacturer (Edelbrock). The engine is 85% built, so not much more to complete. Mainly the original parts to be bolted back on, Inlet manifold, water pump etc. The header tank needs repairing, its leaking from the filler neck, and there are some parts that need cleaning up and painting before re-fitting'.

   It's been over six months without the car and I'm starting to go cold turkey especially now that spring is here. Can't imagine how hard it is for Emanuel to go through the multi-year restoration process but I guess we all look towards the end result.
