   David S. Although I've not used Ace for past couple of years, for the 16 years of ownership I've always struggled with emissions. Even though my trip to MoT garage requires 40 odd mile blast round M25 (traffic permitting) I still have to run engine at 1,500 rpm for 10 minutes to get within limits prior to test, yet my everyday Corsa just sails through. Garage says its to light up the cats, but I'd have thought dash round the motorway did that. I don't argue (just relieved it gets through), but I reckon something's wrong somewhere cos engine has irritating tendency to stall shifting from drive to reverse.

   I'm surprised more people haven't posted pics. Most classic car owners are only too pleased for excuse to post photos of their beloved motors. Perhaps Ace owners are more preoccupied keeping their cars on the road to find time for photos!
   
   Did you sort the cause of fuel leak?

   I make no apology for previously posting this pic of my Ace. It was posted a long time ago and still remains my favourite shot of the car.
   
   Shame AC did away with the rubbing strips on later cars (ACE 94T is a '94 car). Although the source of subsequent corrosion problems, in my opinion the strips enhance the appearance of the cars by continuing the bonnet shut line the length of the car.

   I see you have a blown one. If you really want to exploit its full potential I would recommend fitting the usual power adders - alloy heads, aftermarket inlet manifold, 65mm T/B, Ford Racing headers (exhaust manifolds to you and I) and maybe 1.7:1 roller rockers. The cast iron exhaust manifolds are particularly restrictive, so regardless how hard the 'charger is pushing air in it can't get out because of the puny ports. The Ford Racing headers are fabricated so able to accommodate more generous ports. The ceramic coated ones are worth the extra - retain their shiny silver appearance with discolouration.

Yeah - to get an effective seal of windows on both hood and hardtop is a bit of a challenge - get it right on one and it won't be right on the other! I didn't bother with the hardtop fit on mine cos never use it. If your problem is the glass isn't going up enough to squeeze the top seal there is an adjustable cam type stop on the gear quadrant limiting the height the glass extends. Adjusting this up shouldn't affect the sealing when using hood.

Very pretty. Does yours have a hood as well as hardtop or like mine was its hood removed by factory before selling? I bought mine back in 2000 with last hardtop available from factory, which Duncan Hamilton had trimmed out for me. I was fortunate and subsequently bought a hood, although getting it to fit and work was another matter!

I see the Sultan of  Brunei's Ace has the headlight cutouts/recesses covered over. Shame AC didn't do the same as standard. In my opinion the headlights are the only thing that detract from the Ace's aesthetics.
   
   I wonder where they relocated the MAF meter? And why move it?
   
   The aircon/heating on the standard cars is useless. Surely the Factory did something to improve its performance for the Sultan? But looking at the video clip the blower box and motor look pretty standard. Has anyone improved the airflow on their Ace?

Hi David. Yeah - your right the headers (manifolds) are a joke! The ports are so restrictive they strangle the engine. I fitted Ford Racing ceramic coated tubular headers, which still look good after 10 years. But with the Ford Racing replacements I encountered the opposite situation - the header ports are bigger than the ports in AFR heads that replaced the stock heads. I queried this with AFR's technical department who said it was intentional to stop boundary layer gas reversal back into the heads. Having manifold ports larger than the head ports was news to me, but I finally decided against rectifying the mismatch. However, I couldn't resist matching up the inlet manifold/head tracts. Doubt it made much difference, but made me feel good!
   
   If you haven't managed to track down the lambdas fitted try posting the question on www.mustangworks.com - Windsor Power forum. (Post a pic of the car if you can - that'll get them excited - least it did many years ago when I posted questions.) Obviously the 302 is no longer flavour of the month, but doubtless there are still people knowledgeable in all things 94/95 Ford 5.0 Mustang on the forum.

There's a sensor located on each down pipe. Can't help on the type fitted, but someone here is bound to know. Failing that the Mustang Forum is your best bet.
   
   Why did you replace the entire system? Apart from rear box exhaust is stainless.

Adrian - the slot instead of circular groove is far better idea, although the failure you experienced wasn’t at the groove, but lower down. I guess another solution would be to machine the hub carrier to same taper as ball joint (should be sufficient meat available not to weaken carrier), but retain pinch bolt as means of securing joint in place. Out of interest what was the cost of removing taper from transit ball joints?
   
   As Wally says the stops are nothing more complex than spacers fitted behind the tie rod knuckle joints of sufficient thickness to restrict rack travel so on full lock tyres don’t rub against inner wing valance. You can use steel, aluminium, plastic - whatever comes to hand. The spacers can be fitted as washers (cheap and easy to make) by removing the knuckle joints or made in two halves with screws holding the halves together (lot more expensive!) if you don’t want to remove said joints.

B.P.Bird does have a point. Adrian, what was the nature of your "spectacular failure"? Was it failure of the ball joint stub/pin where it locates in the hub carrier?

I heard it was Transit joint with taper machined to provide parallel fitting. How on earth you can turn down the taper when the ball will simply spin in the socket is beyond me. But I've not studied one to see is and how it can be done.

According to dealer Duncan Hamilton when they supplied the last hard top complete with inappropriate seals back in 2000 as part of deal to sell me my Ace, the seals were specially made to AC's spec. When I rejected the top they managed to locate a set, but said there were no more. Assuming they were right, 15 years on I doubt there are any more seals stashed away somewhere.

Sorry for slow response Ed but been in Philippines. It looks bit of a mess -clearly some kind of reinforcement is required. Mine doesn't even have the sheet bracing at outer fulcrums.
