I have a pair of AC logo sill plates / coach plates, taken from a car that was broken up.

They are scuffed and lightly scratched but should clean up nicely.

Free to good home!

Happy to ship (at your expense, guv).  Located in the US so if you are on the other side of an ocean please check the shipping cost before you get too excited.

Thanks!

Hello all,

It is with regret that I announce to you that I'll be selling AEX725 in the near future due to a downsizing house move.

The car is a project needing full restoration, and does not include engine or transmission/gearbox.  At one point in its history, it was converted to Buick 215 V8 power, with some cuts to engine mounts and firewall/bulkhead (but not frame).  Currently it is engineless, painted flat black over its original silver, and still has the remains of its original red interior.

It's going up on the Bring-a-Trailer site at the recommendation of some friends at the end of the month, but I wanted to give notice to those who may be interested.

Thanks for the many years I have spent (mostly lurking) on this forum!

Yours,
"AEX725"

AC Weller Engine / Engine block alloy composition
« on: December 17, 2015, 23:40:33 »
In preparation recently for attempting a repair of an early Ace engine block that threw a rod five decades ago, I had a local metallurgical firm do an analysis of the elemental composition of the block.

Below are the details of the alloy (element/%).  Totals don't quite add due to rounding, I assume.

   carbon/0
   manganese/.31
   phosphorous/0
   tin/0.11
   silicon/5.81
   lead/0.15
   nickel/0.38
   chromium/0.03
   copper/3.76
   iron/0.98
   aluminum/87.15
   titanium/0.03
   magnesium/0.12
   zinc/1.40

Hope this helps anyone who may be working on a repair.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / EL1450 being broken for spares
« on: November 15, 2015, 01:06:03 »
I've acquired EL1450 from a gentleman in Michigan, USA, and brought it to my shop here in Texas where I'm going to be taking it down for parts.  This car was the subject of a few earlier posts on this forum when it was for sale, including a rather unfortunate series in which the photos from the sale were used by an unscrupulous party in the UK to dupe a British member of the forum-- sympathies, G.

The engine, UMB1451, is a runner and it and the gearbox will be used in one of my other projects.  Some other items will be used for my Ace and Aceca as well.

The interior of EL1450 is in poor shape, but it has a good set of gauges and switches, and one or two usable pieces of trim.  The body is quite straight and looks spiffing in bare aluminum, but the ash underpinnings are sadly well rotted.  I may save a few elements of the body-- the front grille and (brass! I had no idea) surround for example-- but most of it will be recycled.  Suspension, steering, and axle sets are also likely to be disposed of, as I don't have a use for them.

If you know someone who may make use of some of these things, do let me know.
