I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, but here goes again...

I came across these webfind photos of an unidentified 428 Frua convertible at AC Heritage/Brooklands Cars Ltd. in June 2021. The car is RHD, blue with black interior, with blacked-out wire wheels. It doesn't match any of the cars in my files, so I would appreciate some help identifying its chassis number. My best guess is CF11, one of the "missing" 428s.

428 Frua Forum / Which AC 428 Frua at Pure Opulence London...?
« on: November 02, 2023, 00:08:39 »
I came across this photo of a maroon/black RHD 1968 AC 428 Frua convertible, registration no. UPO 773F, on the website for Pure Opulence London. Does anyone know which chassis number this car is?

I don't have a corresponding car in my files, i.e., on that matches this reg. no., year of manufacture, colour scheme, or that has matching dual wing mirrors. My best guess is CF5, one of the "missing" cars.

The DVLA record for this reg. no. is:

Vehicle Details
Vehicle make: AC
Date of first registration: January 1968
Year of manufacture: 1968
Cylinder capacity: 7016 cc
CO₂ emissions: Not available
Fuel type:    PETROL

Real Driving Emissions (RDE): Not available
Export marker: No
Vehicle status: Taxed
Vehicle colour: MAROON
Vehicle type approval: Not available
Wheelplan: 2 AXLE RIGID BODY
Revenue weight: Not available
Date of last V5C (logbook) issued: 25 July 2019

FYI -- CFX10 is currently for sale through Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH in Toffen, Switzerland, where it will be offered at their Gstaad auction on Dec 29, 2023. No word on asking price or pre-auction estimate.

This particular fastback is equipped with an automatic transmission, has a brown interior, and is painted red with an unusual set of white Le Mans stripes.

428 Frua Forum / Which 428 Frua fastback did Rob Walker own...?
« on: October 20, 2023, 14:11:26 »
AC Heritage (Weybridge U.K.) is currently restoring an AC 428 Frua fastback that had been converted into a 427 Cobra roadster around 40 years ago.

They claim this car was previously owned by Rob Walker, but I can't find any information that he ever owned a fastback. The 428 Frua convertible that Walker once owned (CF14) still exists in its original form, and was offered for sale on Bring a Trailer back in Aug 2023.

Does anyone know which CF chassis "Cobra" is being restored by AC Heritage? Which 428 Frua fastback did Rob Walker own?

See photos of the "Cobra" restoration here: www.instagram.com/p/Cygu1t4olXk/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

These webfind photos were taken yesterday (June 9, 2023) in Amsterdam. Does anyone recognize this particular Cobra?

It's road registered in Belgium with the license plate 1 OYE 782.

Is it an original CSX or COX Cobra? If so, can anyone identify its chassis number?

I've poured over the SAAC Registry and my own files, but am stumped.

The fuel filler cap is wrong, but so many of the other details seem right. Painted wire wheels. Rack-and-pinion steering. Smiths gauges. Weathered leather seats. etc.

Thanks for your help, Brian

There are two, maybe three, different cars on the interwebs claiming to be the Autokraft MkIV factory prototype "AK02". Can anyone here clarify which is the real AK02, and what is the story behind the others?

*****

In Jun 2012, the Arts & Revs dealer in Luxembourg offered a blue "AK02" (since sold). This car matches the 2009 ACOC registry entry for AK02: it's painted blue with black leather interior with a carbureted 427 engine. The dashboard layout and steering column are non-standard for both a Cobra and a MkIV. The shock tower upright is stamped "AK02". Reported mileage was 9,700. A DVLA check of the registration number (GRT41T) says the car was built in 1978 and first registered in 1979, which doesn't match either the Shelby American or ACOC registries (1982 build date).

In Jun 2016, the Dorotheum auction house in Salzburg Austria sold a red "AK02" equipped with a Roush Ford 351 motor. This car matches the 2008 Shelby American club registry entry for AK02, and looks to be the car once owned by forum member Emmanueld. The interior resembles the productionized version of the MkIV. The shock tower upright is stamped "AK02" and there's a correct-looking AC chassis plaque on the footbox. Reported mileage was 27,746.

In Apr 2019, the Exoticars dealer in Gold Coast Australia advertised "AK02" on Hemmings and the Club Cobra forum. This car resembles the Luxembourg car, but has notable differences such as the Weber-equipped engine, riveted hood and hood scoop, side pipes, side marker lights, dashboard and steering wheel. There are no photos of the chassis number, but the Autokraft logo is visible on the firewall. Reported mileage was 10,590.

Can Robin Stainer or anyone else confirm: Was this the real CSX2016 on display at this week's Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix? The car is wearing a Swiss registration plate: SZ71683. It shared tent space with a pair of Lotus 11s.

Afraid I don't have much more background info to share, as I wasn't there in person. This is a webfind photo taken by Marc Noordink.

The car resembles the real CSX2016 when it was for sale through Fantasy Junction (Emeryville CA) and Peter Bradfield (London UK) a decade ago. The dark green paint and tan interior match. The nose emblem matches. The lack of side vents and side emblems match. The side mirrors match. The tri-bar headlamps and front turn signals match. The chrome wire wheels and Pirelli tires match. However, the chrome rollbar has been removed (it didn't penetrate the sheet metal) and the hood scoop is missing.

428 Frua Forum / AC 428 Frua coupe for sale in Germany
« on: June 15, 2020, 23:35:06 »
No affiliation with seller

This lovely 428 Frua fastback coupe has just been listed for sale through Thiesen Automobiles in Hamburg, Germany, at an asking price of €298,500.

This particular car's chassis number is not specified. According to the listing, "this very rare AC Frua 428 Fastback was purchased 18 years ago by its current owner in Germany."

My best guess is that it's CF53 which must've been modified to LHD and manual transmission. Can anyone confirm?

« on: November 25, 2016, 14:55:09 »
Philadelphia’s Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is planning an all-AC exhibit, and organizers are putting out the call for owners who are willing to allow their cars to be displayed. The exhibit, the Simeone’s annual Best of Britain show, will be on display from February 18 through March 12, 2017. If you have an AC car of any year and model that you’re willing to make available, contact organizer Dave Hutchison of Ragtops & Roadsters at dave@ragtops.com.

428 Frua Forum / Help ID this AC 428 fastback in Ontario, Canada
« on: September 24, 2016, 20:03:20 »
Can anyone identify the AC 428 Frua fastback coupe in these photos? Which chassis number is this car?  Is it CFX29?

I found these photos online. They were taken by Roy Simkins at the SAAC-7 convention in Great Gorge NJ in Aug 1982. As you can see the car was registered in Ontario, Canada, with the license plate "BUX 975" (1973 issue date). The "Cobra" emblem on the rear fascia might be a useful spotters clue.

   Thanks for your help.

I just came across these photos on Flickr.  They were taken as the MSA Euroclassic rally stopped in Maranello, Italy, to visit the Galleria Ferrari.

Does anyone know whether this is an original AC Cobra and, if so, what the COB60xx number is?  Thanks, Brian

Does anyone know which AC 289 Cobra is on display at the Moray Motor Museum?  I can't seem to identify it in the thousands of Cobra photos I've collected.

   Registration plate is YKV 1.
