General Forum / Not so Speedy Cables
« on: July 16, 2020, 16:55:16 »
I stripped my Buckland's dash out at the beginning of lockdown, after calling Speedy Cables to check they were operating. I wanted everything checked and recalibrating and it seemed an opportune moment as all the wiring is being replaced anyway.

After 3 months, they have finally called me following repeated attempts for an update, with a price almost double the original telephone blind guestimate. (I don't have a problem with that.) And the news that it would be 8 weeks at the earliest. I realise we have to accept new normals, but I cannot trust someone with their attitude. I can see the pandemic ending before I get them back.

Needless to say they are being returned.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

James

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Buckland LYD 512
« on: March 09, 2011, 18:44:33 »
New thread for LYDSI as she is known.

The restoration..."dismantlisation"...is in full flow. I thought it was a useful project for our apprentice to get his teeth into without worrying about customers.

The main point to have struck me so far is the condition of everything. No rot, and purely surface rust. The ply in the floor is questionable, and the carpets ropey, but nothing beyond salvage.

However, with reference to the attached photos, is this evidence of "drophead droop"? The angle doesn't look factory fitted, and although the doors open and shut well, the gaps are closer at the top than the bottoms of the door. Is this a common problem, and if so, is there a cure whilst reconstructing?

   Many thanks

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Buckland

Hi,

I have owned LYD 512 for 20 years now, and as school fees, divorces and mortgages disappear into the dim and distant, it's time to spend some money on me!!

She is basically original, though there is a discrepancy with engine number according to the 2 litre book...I suspect book keeping error at some time. She gets thrashed to my local pub a few times every 5 years, then back into the container.

The body has 2 small dents, minor paint removal through age, corrosion and the elements. Rad is recored, water pump rebuilt, stainless exhaust to fit, and leaking carbs. Wiring probably needs renewing throughout. Chassis is solid but rusty. Brakes work of a fasion. Leather and interior seen better days.

Any useful contacts for advice on whats worth doing and whats not gratefully received. I am not a Concours man, and don't particually want to sell, but I also don't want to spend unwisely.

Look forward to hearing from you,

   Scud.
