Went to start the beast last week, she turned over at first, started for a moment, stopped, and when I turned the key again and all I heard was a click.  Changed the solenoid, checked the battery was fully charged and the state of the earth strap - all looks good so am reconciled to removing the starter.

Looks like a real pain with the engine in the car.  Has any one got any tips?  Can it be done without removing the exhaust manifold and the inner wing?

The battery in my Mark IV has given up the ghost in the winter weather.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a good replacement?

The small rubber gaters on my steering column switch gear are starting to dry and crack.  Can anyone suggest an oil or other treatment I can rub on then to stop further aging?

Mk IV, Superblower, CRS and other Continuation Cars Forum / Spare Wheel
« on: September 29, 2007, 21:39:03 »
In the Mk IV manual I notice it says that you shouldn't exceed 50 mph on the spare wheel and not to use if for too long.  Does anyone know why the restriction?  Was the spare wheel rim inferior in some way?

Two of my Halibrands are looking pretty tatty these days - corrosion seems to have gotten under the lacquer.  Can anyone recommend an alloy wheel refurbishment firm (preferably in Essex)?

Can any one suggest where I might be able to obtain an original pattern AC logo steering wheel centre or cap? I am after the plastic type that was fitted to the Mk II /III and AC 289.  I bought one from Finish Line in the US but it is an aluminium billet with an AC sticker on it rather than the original moulded plastic item.

If any one is interested there is an HO engine for sale on eBay taken from a MkIV.  The lot number is 260087790820.  The engine is offered by a very reputable source (no, its not me!).

General Forum / Mota Lita
« on: September 21, 2006, 15:41:23 »
I have just received and fitted a new Mota-Lita steering wheel to my Mark IV and I wanted to share my pleasure!
The wheel is the original wood rimmed pattern produced for the Mk2 cars but was custom made so as to bolt directly onto the RS Escort boss (fitted to the MkIV Cobra).  Wooden wheels aren't for everyone but I have to say, the new wheel looks and feels great and the people at Mota-Lita couldn't have been more helpful or enthusiastic!

Dear All,
Well I've followed everyone's advice - spoken to Alan about MkIV's, spoke to Brian about insurance, taken the plunge and bought a Mk IV EFI.

Two new questions if I may.

A popular option seems to be to change the diff ratio from the standard 3.3 to 3.7.  Can I ask, for anyone that has done this, have you really found this to be of benefit?

Secondly, has anyone converted their EFI to Holley carb and, if so, again, was it worth while?

   Kind Regards

Dear All,
Are there any insurance companies that you can recommend to provide cover for a Mk IV (or any in particular that you wouldn't)?

Dear All,
I am looking to buy a Mk IV Cobra and would get grateful for any advice or pointers to look for when buying a car.

Also, were there any changes made to the spec of the car over the life time of manufacture or where all Mk IV's created equal?

   Thank you & Regards
