Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Front Suspension Mods
« on: September 24, 2019, 23:00:58 »
As forum seems to have gone very quiet of late I thought I'd post info about mods I did to front suspension earlier this year, which I originally posted in reply to Shamea2 "Back on the Road" topic in case anyone was interested.

The offside camber angle on my Ace was set at 1.5 degrees negative resulting in uneven tyre wear. However, the suspension on my car had no adjustment for camber. So I cut off the upper wishbone metalastic bushes and replaced them with rose bearings and set both camber angles to 0.5 degrees positive.

The rose bearings, being much narrower than the original bushes, also enabled an increase in caster angles of around 1 degree, which totally transformed the handling!!! (In my original post I said ride was harsher since fitting the rose bearings. However, I subsequently discovered the locknuts were not tight enough.)

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Windscreen Surround/Seal?
« on: August 08, 2018, 19:26:12 »
Started as a new topic in case folks who might have the knowledge I’m seeking haven’t been following my waffle about repairing/replacing chipped windscreen.

Got to replace my screen but National Windscreens can’t identify the rubber surround so propose using a seal that is wider than currently fitted. I would prefer to keep as close to original as possible. Does anyone know the parts bin the surround was sourced from or one very similar style to original?

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Stone Chipped Screen
« on: August 02, 2018, 09:16:40 »
Don’t have much luck with my Ace. Taking the car on infrequent outing yesterday stone hit the windscreen right slam bang in line of sight. Can probably be repaired but because of position would prefer new one. Is it a Sierra MK2 screen? Bonded? Has anyone experience of having replacement fitted? Should I consider repair?

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Fuel Starvation Problems?
« on: May 29, 2018, 20:50:00 »
Attempting to start the Ace after an extended period sat in the garage the fuel pump refuse to operate. Removing it hoping to breath new life into it I noticed there’s a short length of hose connecting the pump to the H.P. line where it passes through the tank mounting plate. I noticed where the hose has to negotiate a tight bend to align with the tube the rubber was perished, felt very “soggy” and outer cover split. It was an easy job to replace – just 4 off x 5.5mm/6mm screws (can’t remember which) hold everything together. For anyone experiencing inexplicable fuel starvation problems at higher speeds it would be worth checking the condition of this hose.

Regards the non-functioning pump a few judicious whacks with a hammer didn’t get pump working, but applying full 12 volts direct from the battery did. Worth trying this if you experience same problem.
