Recent ACs / Bell housing threads.
« on: December 29, 2018, 09:41:23 »
I've bought myself an engine crane and stand as I'm looking to rebuild the old 428 which I took  out of my cobra. Unfortunately, the engine stand has a plate with four adjustable arms which each have a 40mm tube spacers which you bolt through to the engine to hold the engine. I need to buy some 70mm bolts to bolt through to the spacers to the bell housing, the existing bell housing bolts are too short. I've tried everywhere locally to buy these without success, does anybody know what the thread is, it's not a metric thread so I,m assuming a whitworth or af thread.

Recent ACs / Decibels
« on: January 21, 2017, 21:10:47 »
Last year I purchased COX5012  and changed the 428 FE for a 427 side oiler. I did attend the ACOC sprint in November but sadly was unable to participate due to the 105db limit imposed. The car I own has side pipes. My question is this, is there any way to reduce the noise emitted from my side pipes to a level which would comply? Somebody did suggest to me that I should do away with the side pipes and replace with a conventional exhaust with silencer but it is not an option that I like. Is there any exhaust specialist  out there that has solution?

Recent ACs / Optimum water temperature
« on: September 28, 2016, 23:13:31 »
I've recently had installed a 427 FE side oiler and have found that once the temperature reaches 80 degrees C. the main fan comes on and stays on until the car has parked and cooled down. Can anybody advise if this is normal and what is the optimum operating temperature for my engine. It has a competition cam and twin 675 cfm Holley's. Any advice would be appreciated.

General Forum / Rug top loader rear splined flange
« on: August 24, 2016, 21:15:51 »
Hi, I am currently in the process of changing my engine and gearbox. The splined flange that connects the gearbox to the prop shaft won't accept the existing flange I have. Any help on where I can locate a 31 splined flange would be very appreciated.

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / Chassis Modification
« on: August 18, 2016, 16:17:26 »
I'm in the process of replacing my 428 FE with a 427 FE side oiler. I have a problem with the chassis cross member between the engine and gearbox is in the way of the larger sump pan on the new engine. The garage is suggesting modifying the chassis by removing the cross member and replacing it with an alternative bracing. I have some concerns about doing this and wondered if any members have had to solve a similar problem and if so, how did it work out? Any help would be very appreciated.

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / 428 FE thermostat
« on: July 12, 2016, 22:13:03 »
I,m having problems losing water only after parking the car, it seems that once the engine switches off the top up tank filler cap dispenses about half a pint of water. I thought that I would check the thermostat was working correctly, on removing the header tank and thermostat housing I have found that there isn't a thermostat fitted, however there is a brass plate in the tube to the header tank with an offset hole of approx 17mm drilled through it. It looks like a flow restrictor/baffle plate. Is this A replacement for a thermostat ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ac ace
« on: June 08, 2016, 23:09:50 »
At the funeral of an old friend of mine recently there was a collage of old photo,s, two of which were of an AC Ace that he used to own in the sixties. I am intrigued to find out what happened to the car. The registration number was VPA 999. I would like to post the photo,s on here but not sure if that,s possible. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
