I agree, it looks a good car that with tidying could be a lot better.
Word of caution, the ebay online history report states that it was registered as being involved in an accident, no details given, in 2008

Hi Andy
I have a Ford 2.6 engine MKII (206E)and manual gearbox that could be made available. I was building it as a spare for my Ruddspeed car.
This is the correct engine for the Ace.

Engine appears in good condition with very little bore wear.
The head has been checked, skimmed, new value guides and unleaded seats fitted by Burton Power.  In itself not a cheap operation.

I also have an "Aquaplane" manifold with triple su's that I rebuilt.

If your contact is interested give me a call on 07711 268150 I am in Herts near Berkhampsted.

Amazon may now be cheapest.
Tesco have increased from the £25 I paid, a couple of weeks ago, to £31 now. Still with free postage.

Hi
I got a copy from Tesco Direct on line.
It was a lot cheaper than any other places that I could find.

It is a very good read.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Wheel Offset and strength
« on: December 07, 2008, 07:13:43 »
Hi
I agree one of the best places to look for info is on the MWS web site. They tell you what the "offset" and "backspace" should be.
From experience it is the backspace that is vital as it dictates the room to the inner wheel arch.
I think that on the 15" wheel its 47.60mm and less for the 16" i.e. 46.60 mm. MWS show an example of how to measure backspace.

I have an Ace 2.6 and have a set of 15" cobra wires as a spare.
They are ok on the front but no good on the back. Offers!

My car runs on period widened 15" with 6" rims and 0 (zero) backspace. I would like some replacements for normal use.
The body was made into the Cobra 289 shape by the workds aroung 1965 or 66. Steering is heavier than normal at low speed so you need to take that sort of thing into account.
   Cheers

General Forum / Does this come from an AC Ace?
« on: June 14, 2007, 08:02:17 »
Hi nikbj68
The info that I have seen on the Buchanan does not include any put onto an AC chassis. I would have thought that would have made a rather expensive kit car in the late 50's.
The total sales was in the region of 100 to 150

General Forum / Does this come from an AC Ace?
« on: June 08, 2007, 11:50:25 »
The car is an Australian kit car made in the late 1950's.
It is called a Buchanan and only a very few were ever made.
The glass fibre body was taken from the Aston Martin DB3S raced by the Kangaroo Racing Stable and slightly altered to keep Astons happy.

Interesting they called some of their cars in the 1950's the "Cobra". Bet Carroll Shelby ignores this as much as he does the AC heritage in articles on Cobras. (Latest Octane Mag for example).

The chassis used were mainly a mixture of their own, MG TC or TD types and I think a single HRG chassis was also was used.

Sorry, but don't know much else.

There was an article on one in Classic and Sports Car in mid 2002'ish
   Worth researching and restoring.

   Cheers

General Forum / Car covers
« on: May 25, 2007, 10:00:59 »
Hi
The advice I have been given, by the guy who repainted my Ace, is never cover a car in a garage.

The paint/car can sweat even if its not wet from rain irrespective of how good the cover is said to be. This I would think is very likely in HK.

Use a ninette clearning mop to keep dust off.

   Cheers

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / Cobra glass

I have a clear laminated windscreen to fit a Cobra. I bought it 10 years ago from Europa Spares and never used it. It has been dry stored in my garage and has no frosting etc.
I thought it would fit an Ace screen (big mistake). I see they still do them at £168 incl Vat. It will not fit the early Cobra screen frame I have also put on the forum.
Email me on rod@allsworth.net for more info pictures.
   Thanks

I have an original windscreen frame including the 2 side supports, from a 1962 Ruddspeed Ace. This will also fit early Cobras.
There is no glass. The bottom bar was rechromed about 10 years ago and its been hanging in my garage since. It was not used as I managed to buy the last spare original available from Brasscraft. This will not fit AC or Bristol engine cars as the Ruddspeed was slightly wider. The frame measures 14 3/4" (375mm) deep at centre and is 52" (1320mm) wide at base measured straight not around the curve.Email me at rod@allsworth.net for pictures.
   Thanks
