Welcome James. Good to hear of an Ace being resuscitated.

You are in the right place here...

Do you have a General Instructions (Owner's Handbook)? If not, the Club has them for sale. Also, have you a Bristol Engine Manual?

You may remember, Clive that the ACOC presented a large copy of the last picture (one of the bays of the finishing department) to Alan Lubinsky as a gesture of goodwill from the club to the new owner of AC Cars. I wonder where that is now?

Well that put me in my place. I was only trying to be helpful. I thought that you meant the whole thread had been read on 340 occasions, not just the first post. I'll crawl back under my stone...

Sorry, but I don't believe 340 people is correct. If you divide the 340 reads by the 6 posts up to that point, that gives you less than 60 people. Even less if some people read the posts more than once. And how many of those would be from the geographic region you are referring to?

So I think an article in ACtion gives you the best return for your efforts. Good luck.

I believe that there is no part of the chassis or suspension system that is common between the two models.

IMHO = In My Humble Opinion

I think the only thing you could do would be to contact the DVLA and inform them of his intention. That would not stop him going through with his plan, but could stop the incorrect registration at the end. I assume that the vehicle is of Irish origins and not currently registered here. You would need the chassis number in that case.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca project for sale

Depends on who is selling it. It may be the garage who is restoring it for themselves and they realise they have spent too much on it, or they need the cash injection. Could be the garage is selling it on behalf of the owner, who has fallen out of love with it, or perhaps run out of money to complete the restoration. Maybe the owner cannot pay for the work done to date and the garage is forced to sell it to offset its costs. Perhaps it is an Executor sale? Lots of different reasons.

I know perfectly well it doesn't require an MOT by law, I just think that any purchaser would be much happier if it had one. I am surprised that insurance companies do not insist on one, or at least a report by a motor engineer every year on its condition.

What a shame that the last MOT expired over 2 years ago. What would happen if you drove it home and had an accident on the way? How would your insurance company view it?

Gary, Barry Howsley has stocked king pin sets for some models, so could be worth a try. Contact details usually in the ad section of ACtion.

If there isn't one with the above machine near you, try your local Kwikfit. I wouldn't recommend them for anything else, but the Telford branch did an excellent job of four wheel alignment on my modern. They have the latest Hunter equipment which displays the settings in the waiting area and the technician called me in to the car and explained the problems and what he was going to do. He then adjusted it all within tolerances for a very reasonable price and provided me with a before and after printout. All for substantially less than £100.

Your problem which you recognise is that you do need the original specifications against which it can measured.
