Hi Laurent,
I think the lower ball joint is a Saab one. As far as I know Barry (bazhow@hotmail.com) offers a NOS set of them. Look at the "small ads" page above the forum.

The upper suspension ball joints are standard male threaded rod ends. I am not sure about the thread but it is definitely UNF. You can buy them here: https://www.isa-racing.com/detail/index/sArticle/4086/sCategory/970 or here: https://www.mcgillmotorsport.com/male-rod-ends-c-55
I bought from both companies over the past years and both are very good.
Kind regards,
Peter

Hi James,
so far I haven't worked on the gear level problem. But this will one of the next jobs.
The Zephyr 2.6 engine is completely overhauled with new Volvo pistons. Maybe, next year I can start it  :o
Btw. I worked a little bit on the car. I think most of us know the problem that lifting the car up it is not possible to rotate the rear wheels due to some blocking in the universal joints. That's the reason why Spax sells rebounded shock absorbers for the Ace/Aceca. They have the normal length and 15 mm, 40 mm and 60 mm shorter versions. I bought the 15 mm shorter version  G623EA. The EA suffix stands for "Brian Eacott" as the bill explained me  :)
You can see the difference here:

With the new Spax shock absorbers I was able to install the complete axles. The rear wheels can rotate free when the car if lifted up.

So, after 10 years of restoring the car it't back on it's own feet  :)

After quite long summer holidays I started with a little "home-improvement" project. Guess what  ;)

It turned out that it was quite more complex than expected (as usual).

Took me two weeks of work to close the wall again ...
In the meantime the differential came back from overhauling.

For the installation the output shafts must be removed

It took more than a complete day to install it

Time to install the fuel pump

Mounting the complete wiper engine was much more complicated than expected. I had to detect that the heater had to be re-allocated. The original pipes for the worm drive were dented such that it was hard to move the worm drive through the pipes. I build new one.

These pipes have the same OD as the original pipes but a bittle bit bigger ID which results in a quite smooth movement of the worm drive.
I installed the wiper engine not on the left side of the car as it was orignally but on the right side in order to keep the unit away from the exhaust header of the Zephyr engine and to get a mirrored movement of the wipers because the car will be LHD.

As mentioned before the heater must be re-allocated. A new mounting bracket shifts the heater 20 mm to the left and lowers it 3 mm. Not much, but necessary for the wiper unit.

The steering hub was polished. I love this look.

I am not an Ace expert but I think the wood bumpers are not correct  ::)

Thank you for the kind words about my work. I had to search the internet for the meaning of "helluva"  :)

I thought it would be possible to fit the bonnet using some shims. But with the correct shims the internal frame of the bonnet  hit the main frame. So I decided to rebuild the complete bonnet.

The frame was quite twisted. I had to bend it at a lot of places.

After painting a first check whether it fits the main frame.

Now, the complex parts starts: finding the right alignment of the bonnet skin wrt. the body.

Before the skin is riveted to the frame I check again the correct alignment using the cleco pins.

And here is the result. Much better than before. I hope the painter will be satisfied with me  ;)

Not so much has happend during the last weeks. I worked on the steering column.

After painting it was ready for installation:

Uh, I still have a Ford 2.6 engine in pieces in my garage and a Volvo M41 transmission with OD. Must stop thinking about the possibilities ...  :o

Seems to be AEX198. I have some old pictures showing the car in red but already converted. The conversion is quite bad especially the complete re-construction of the front and rear axle. It looks like a cheap kit-car in that area: Jaguar axle in the rear.

Maybe you remember this picture:

Today, I made a similar picture of the old panels. This is all junk.

I am still alive and still work on this car (but sometimes I ask myself why ...)
All the boot panels are installed now.

The panels of the internal rear mud guards are not riveted so far but fixed with cleco pins to check accuracy of fit.

The old acrylic glass will be replaced.

The seats and the upper steering column from Ben Yates are installed

together with the nice sliding contact for the horn push button

The installation of the hatchback was a nightmare. I spent days, not hours, days (!!!) to make the right shims making the boot lid closing in the right way. At  the end end I had several shims

two of 1.5 mm, the others were 1.2, 1.0 and 0.8 mm. At the end I used none on the left side and 3 mm on the right side. I also swapped the hinges but that was a complete flop. Every time I had to remove the hinges. Took quite a long time. That's the result:
