Stephen - An impressive note. I am just puzzling about the acronym at the end. Terms which I found out via Google (such as 'End of Evangelion' / 'Echoes of Eternity' / 'Elgin-O'Hare Expressway') do not really seem to fit. ;-)

That AKL car has been advertised on 'mobile.de' for exactly 6 years now. I have no clue why it has not been sold. I took a look at it two years ago (when I was after another car offered by the same dealer), it looked pretty good. The asking price is not out of scope either.

428 Frua Forum / AC 428 nose badges ?
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:30:02 »
The 428 nose badge appears to have also been used for the MkIV boot lid. I was after such a badge for my MkIV last year and started a corresponding thread in the MkIV forum. Here is the relevant part of that thread:

   All:
Just to inform you and to round this off:
Steve Gray proved to be very willing to help. He still has a couple of original Mk IV badges in his stock. I could get one for GBP 22 + postage. However, they are 'slightly imperfect' in terms of chrome as they have been stored fo 20 years. Coincidentally, Steve is scheduled to meet with Juergen Mohr next week. He offered on that occasion to check whether the (reproduced) Mohr Mk VI badges are the same as the original Mk IV ones. If they do, I could get one supplied out of Juergen Mohr's stock. Steve himself plans to have Mk IV badges reproduced, so, as a third option, I could get one of those, I am not sure about the timing of this reproduction exercise, though. I will now await the outcome of Steve's meeting with Mr. Mohr next week.

There is a fair potential market for these badges as they were also used on the Frua and the 3000ME.

Thought they looked like 3000ME wheel centre and door pillar badges!

Yes the smaller badges were the same as used on 3000ME wheel centres and door frames, but the larger 3 inch ones are the bare AC without the outer ring. I think Europa had some Aluminium ones made, but it sounds like Steve Gray holds the best answer. We have a Hurco CNC milling Machine at work which could make them from solid brass. They could be polished and chrome plated, but the cost would be more than Steve or AC.Thanks Juergen for a really interesting subject. It shows the reason why we have a forum, and how fast information can be found from other enthusiasts.

The 3" ones made by or for AC were a pressing which gave a 3D effect and had high quality chrome plate. The aftermarket ones available today (from Europa) are a flat plate and the chrome is pretty nasty and starts to bubble rapidly.

Steve Gray is considering re-manufacturing the correct original type so if you are interested, do get touch with him and let him know there is some demand out there.

Hello, I am owner of AK 1240 and I am looking precisely for the same AC badge. I hope someone has identified a source for it in the meantime. Kind regards from Farnkurt Germany, Hermann

   Hermann:
Please see my above post of Jan. 30 regarding options of obtaining emblems via Steve Gray of AC Heritage. Steve promised to get an emblem out of Juergen Mohr's stock sent to me (I have not received it yet) but indicated that this would be a one-off exercise as Juergen Mohr does actually not have emblems to spare. As for the other two options I suggest that you contact Steve directly: steve@brooklandsmotorcompany.co.uk.

Very well done.

Congratulations, Martin! A great car, and definitely a bargain.

Alan: Is an 'AKL' chassis no. (rather than an 'AK' one) denotative of a Lightweight as per your definition? I am somewhat confused about the large number of AKL designated cars (some 80) in the MkIV register.
   Best wishes,
   Jürgen

Does anybody know which significance the 'AKL' (rather than 'AK') prefix of the chassis number has for a MkIV to qualify as a Lightweight? The background of my question is as follows: Originally I thought AKL = Lightweight, AK = standard MkIV. I recently found out that in the Club's MkIV register some 80 cars are listed as AKLs, while all other sources which I am aware of indicate that only 40 to 50 Lightweights were produced (see, e.g., Alan Faulkner-Stevens' article on Lightweights in the July 2012 issue of ACtion).

54
I suggest to add the following items to the above list:
   - no leather cabin edging,
   - two rather than three windshield wipers
   - rear mirror mounted on top of the dashboard rather than glued to the windshield,
   - no demister vents.
The first three items are probably 'obvious ones', the fourth may come under the 'more subtle' heading.

55
I remember that the issue 'true' Lightweights vs. 'other' Lightweights was discussed in some detail in a thread of this forum some time ago, but I did not succeed in retrieving that thread. Maybe anyone else can help?

56
I think that would also be possible, a downside could be that in such case the impact bar is clearly visible and may also affect the usability of the pocket.

57
I will do my best, Olivier. I remember having seen a description of how to post pictures in the forum not too long ago but cannot find it anymore. Could you help with this? To speed things up you could also send me your e-mail address, I would then mail you the pics.

That is in fact possible. I had that change made to my Mk IV because I did not like the Ford Capri look of the original door opener. It requires certain modifications of the mechanism but is far less cumbersome than the work described by Nick.

3.5 times the number of the car recently offered in Germany. Lightweight prices seem to be somewhat heterogeneous these days...
