Keith,  Wow, what a fluke she had pictures of your car back then..amazing.. I'm guessing that my Sister probably had the camera, and her boyfriend had her take the pictures of it, being an Ace owner himself..
I'm not sure if Dave has yet had the chance to review the CD he made up from several old 8mm films of cars racing at Westwood back in the day, but we both think there may be some footage of an Ace racing on them. Be amazing to have that footage, if it is your car...I have the CD he sent me around here somewhere, and will see if I can did it out.

Good eye John!
I magnified the picture of the two Cobras on the Westwood track. The white one appears to be # 67, and it does have wheel flares and a fender vent, so it is not the same #59 Razelle car. The blue Cobra, appears to be number 100, and has what I believe, an Oregon license plate. It also has side pipes, whereas the white Cobra does not appear to have them.
I have learned that the Razelle Cobra was CSX2035. It appears he raced in good company, having competed in the same USRRC races as Ken Miles, and Bob Holbert. I wonder if the #67 car is the same one raced by Jo Siffert, roadster CSX2260? I did find a car #100, owned by Dr. John Gormman (CSX2218), which was once driven by a Bill Stevens from Portland. Perhaps he painted it, as it is listed as "red" in this race program from 1967.

After Bill Steven's passed away, this newsletter was published, which makes for a really interesting read. It mentions the ultimate demise of the CSX2458 Cobra..

With such a limited production of the 260 Cobras, would Shelby have changed the front bumper over-riders on different cars. I notice that the #59 has different ones, than the promo 260 that was featured in Shelby's first ads. The car in the ad's has very strange looking over-riders, that are much shorter and yet wider on the sides, They actually cover the mounting bolts/tubes, almost to the body..Perhaps some that AC Cars provided for it, or Shelby had made up?

   So you own that car..nice!
I loved seeing it. Been years since I've seen an Aceca. There used to be one that raced at the old Westwood race track (in British Columbia), way back in the sixties, and I think that is the last one I ever saw up close.

A site to behold! Cobra's coming through the famous corkscrew. Only seven of the 41 in the race, were 427 powered cars. Sorry the quality isn't better, but I didn't have a true video camera.

I really enjoyed finally seeing this rig in person.. I have seen numerous pictures (mostly black and white) over the years. Very cool that someone kept it all these years.

General Forum / Princess Blue, vs Viking Blue..etc
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:20:26 »
That is a very nice example, and exactly the color I have been looking for.[:)] It is obviously a lighter shade blue then the Viking Blue.

I rec'd this interesting information today.
"The paint code Princess Blue (Metallic) was P151-R843, the company that made it is ICI out of the UK."

The same person pointed me to this thread (on another forum) which has a picture of one the original AC Cars paint chips, and color codes. Interestingly enough, the Princess Blue looks darker in this paint sample picture (although it may be the angle) than the color of the car above. It almost looks the same as the Sky Blue sample shown..

I may just have to find a formula as close as possible to it, as I doubt that ICI would ship paint all the way to Canada, being it is considered a hazardous goods shipment.

Thank you for your reply. You are correct, the 64 team cars were painted what was called Viking Blue.
The car I pictured is apparently CSX2259, which had the trunk kick out bumps to be class legal for racing. I thought this may have been a 64 team car. It's definitely not Guardsman Blue, but is it Viking Blue, or simply a variant of the color perhaps chosen during it's restoration?

I was under the impression from a story I read, that ithe color called Princess Blue, and was a color that AC Cars had actually painted a few CXS cars. According to the story, the Americans didn't like the name, and re-named it Viking Blue as it sounded more Macho..This is what confused me. Whoever penned the story could have been mis-informed, and perhaps this is not the case at all, and they are in fact two different shades of blue.

I now have found out through more research, that the Portofino Blue was a color choice offered by Superformance, and not an original color available on COB or CSX cars.

I would still really like to see a car, where the color Princess Blue is confirmed.

It seems that the market for classic cars has changed dramatically, if the Barret Jackson auctions is any indication.

At one time the big money was being paid for fully restored Antique cars from the early 1900's thru 1930's. Now those cars (other than the odd exception) seem to have fallen out of favor for the sixties muscle cars, which are getting very high bids.
Each generation has it's favored cars, and it depends which generation is willing to spend the money to buy their dream car, that controls the market prices.

Imagine what the kids born in the 90's or 00's might think of as their cars of choice when they have the purchasing power, when they reach middle age. I doubt they will have little in cars from the sixties era. Probably want a Honda Civic.[:D]

Intrigued, as I wasn't sure why there seem to be different names for it, but I did a little research and this is what I learned..huh..

-Great Britain = the island of Britannia (England, Wales and Scotland)
-UK = United Kingdom, is all the above, but also includes Northern Ireland.
-Full common title used today is "United Kingdom of Great Britain"

I was surprised to see that there was a land border crossing was between The Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland..What's with that? Do they actually make you stop and show your passport?

I don't understand the significance of that plate number, in that this fellow would pay such a huge amount for it?? What does  "7T" represent in England?

Was the same plate number of one that John Lennon, or perhaps somebody famous, had on thier vehicle?

   I just don't get it..

Well I'll be! Thanks for the info.

That is a complicated system, if I ever heard of one.

Here, the plate number has no bearing on the year of the car, which makes it very simple. The plate # will change only if and when the vehicle changes ownership, otherwise it remains the same as when first issued.

Prior to around hmm.. 1973 perhaps, in BC there was a completely new plate and number issued almost every year. Each year the plates, and numbers also had a different colour. Note- The odd year they supplied a coloured metal strip that would show the new year. This was applied over the previous year.
This way the police could take a quick glance at a plate and see if the vehicle was currently insured. (Liability insurance is mandatory here) This was quite expensive to do, as you can imagine, so they switched over to the decal system.

In 1986 partly to celebrate EXPO 86, the province of BC issued new plates to all vehicles, when ones insurance was being renewed. These newer plates were made of alluminum, so rusting was no longer an issue, as well the paint had a reflective quality unlike the earlier ones. At night they could be seen at a greater distance, probably for the sake of the police..This exact same style and color of plate is still issued today when getting new plates.
A small colored decal is issued each year the car is insured for the road, that is applied over the previous years decal. (rear plate only) The decal color varies every year, so the police can tell at a glance, if a vehicle is currently insured.
My truck plate has had so many new decals applied to it for so many years the decal thickness is almost a 1/2" thick..[:D]

NOTE- for a brief time in celebration of the 2010 Olympics held in BC, a special 2010 Olympic plate was available for use. This was available for an initial price, as well as an additional annual usage fee. It was not that popular.
There is also now a "Veterans" plate available for Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces only. I don't believe there is any extra cost for this plate.

A little history of our Provinces plates,,if anyones interested. NOTE- Some of the earlier plates issued are very rare, and worth a significant amount of money to plate collectors..

From what I understand CS was a bit of a BS'er..lol

Like the method he used in painting the same car different colors, when the early Cobra was first shown to motor journalists. Made it appear that there were several cars on hand. Genius! [:D]
