Title: Soft top - Is there a max speed?
Post by: 1985 CCX on September 17, 2019, 22:38:34
Guys

Installed my soft top, I have no owners manual to reference any details.
Is there a max speed while driving with soft top.  I don't want to damage car or top if it cannot exceed a certain speed.
Basically can you drive 65-70 mph without issue?

I have an owners manual here. The last sentence in section "Fitting Folding Soft Top" says: Warning: The vehicle should not exceed 50 m.p.h. with the soft top fitted.

The poor aerodynamics make the top balloon above 45mph. You will see it rise 2” clear of the hoops, but worse where the attachments are, you can see the hood trying to lif off the body, where it can damage the alloy panels. It’s also noisy with wind roar. You can reduce it by removing the side screens and rear window, where you can do 70mph just about.

Thanks to all.

Mike O sent me a digital copy of the owners manual.  its 50mph, so back roads only in cooler weather.

Appreciate the help in this as I am trying to avoid body damage etc....   THANKS
