Title: MKIV Differential
Post by: jmohara on December 16, 2016, 23:47:23
I have a 1985 AC MKIV with a seized rear differential. Before i start the rebuild process, can someone confirm that the unit in this is a Salisbury 4HU Power-Lok unit?
   Thanks!

Yes, it is a Salisbury. It is the same unit used by Jaguar. Years ago, I bought a rebuilt Jag unit with 3.55 gears and it bolted right in without problems.

Mine got rebuilt in the last year and believe it is an XJS unit.

I know its the same unit as a Jaguar - but I need the actual type number to get all the clearances etc. Anyone confirm its a Salisbury 4HU Power-Lok?

I have this in for a rebuild and am still hoping someone can confirm that its a Salisbury 4HU Power-Lok unit. I have the specs for that, and gave them to the builder - so I hope its the right one :-)

Michael,

the only thing I can confirm is that the differential is a limited slip differential from Salisbury, of course then with different gear ratios as it was specified.  Further Specifications I do not have.  I was looking in an old Autokraft sales flyer and it did say Salisbury limited slip differential.

This I found on a Jaguar and a Cobra Forum, independently:

   From 1976-1985, the differential was a Salisbury 4HU Power-Lok that came with either 3.07:1, 3.31:1 (1976-1982), or 2.88:1 (1982-1985) ratios.

Maybe this can provide the answer you are looking for?
