Title: Which 289 Cobra at the 2011 MSA Euroclassic?
Post by: SunDude on March 20, 2016, 14:56:23
I just came across these photos on Flickr.  They were taken as the MSA Euroclassic rally stopped in Maranello, Italy, to visit the Galleria Ferrari.

Does anyone know whether this is an original AC Cobra and, if so, what the COB60xx number is?  Thanks, Brian

Brian,

I wouldn't bet on it, but it looks like 'COB6052'. AC never built a 6052 in period: they laid down a chassis but used it to repair 6040, badly damaged in a Snetterton racing accident.

If this is the 6052 replica, it was built by Brian Angliss in in 1992 for Nick Shrigley-Feigl. Shrigley-Feigl was more creative than many in explaining its non appearance for some 30 years.

Thanks Robin.

If not the 6052 replica, could it be 6035...?  I thought it was painted blue, too.

Brian,

It's not 6035. The only thing 6035 has in common with the photographed car is colour.

I think you'll find that this car is a rather nice Hawk 289 replica that used to belong to Roger King, an occasional poster on this forum.

   Regards Luke.

Luke,

You're bang on the money. It can be seen at s668.photobucket.com, with its complete 7 CSX registration.

   Thanks for the ID, Luke.

7 CSX doesn't appear to be listed as a valid GB or NI registration ('UK' to our friends across the pond).

Possibly due to being transferred to another vehicle...?

It certainly has been transferred, to a Cobra that no amount of looking underneath, inside, outside, over or around would show a single discrepancy!!!

They don't make 'em like that any more :)

The DVLA would appear not to have completed the 7 CSX transfer yet. I couldn't find it under 'AC', 'AC Electric' or 'Cobra', the three most common DVLA 'Make' designators.

Hello all

My ears are burning - yes, that was my Hawk, now owned by a very nice chap who is taking good care of it and using it as intended.  The car you are looking at has taken us to Rome, The Picos mountains, Madrid, Biarritz, Hockenheim, Salzburg... plus a lot more.  '65 date code hipo and a lot of fun.
The reason you can't find it on DVLA is that it is registered as a Hawk, but it doesn't wear that number now anyway!
Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.  I should frame this thread...
