Title: half shaft alignment

Okay, while replacing my half shaft and drive shaft u joints on my 1960 Aceca, I noticed the passenger/right side half shaft yokes are NOT PARALLEL.
ITS cocked say 8 and 10 not parallel was this done on purpose for binding?
The car was fine before.....
Anyone know the answer?

Hi Joe,

is it possible to see a picture? - not sure to understand it right.
In my knowing the offset of the yokes will cause vibration problems.

The half shaft yokes should be in line with each other. One half of the shaft is normally marked with an arrow and the other yoke has a small notch to show the correct alignment.
As Chris said, incorrect alignment can be a cause of driveline vibration.

Ok look at top left it’s off one tooth
I don’t think they were ever apart?
I just did the joints!

The lower shaft is correct. Just undo the retainer on the incorrect shaft, slide apart and realign it.
A lot of odd things can happen to a car that's nearly six decades old! :)

When they go back in after I put the pumpkin in they should go one way ish both side even or stagger for phasing?

No need for any phasing, the shafts are independent of each other via the action of the differential.

BE475 half shafts after I rebuilt them with new UJs.

Mine were also misaligned. There are certain instance of upright removal, where it's easier to simply disengage the sliding joing rather than unbolt the UJ. So it's possible this may be the cause of the misalignement. I also welded up a bespoke socket to gain access to the inner UJ bolts (x4), so they could be run up with a impact rather than spannering every one.
