Title: Sidescreen mounting ferrules
Post by: pjbowman on November 23, 2017, 00:39:24
Are the small chrome 'ferrules' that go into the doors on an Ace, into which the sidescreen posts slip, available new anywhere? Not sure what they are technically called. I'm thinking new ones might be cheaper than rechroming my existing ones.

Are they the same size as Cobra? Gerry Hawkridge sells them.
(May be cheaper to re-chrome, or just polish!)

Here's a place in New Hampshire which seems to have replacement ferrules for Cobras if they are the same (maybe they can provide dimensions)

I'm confident they are the same on an Ace as a Cobra. The original ones were chrome on brass, and rather worn, and around 1980 I got some more from Brian Angliss, who was making Cobras under licence at the time. They look identical. Moreover, being stainless steel, they don't wear nearly as fast.

I made a set in aluminium, but it's a bit of a faff.

A follow-up question: were the originals just push-in, or did they have 2 small notches int he top and using the special tool, screwed down in? I always thought they were just push-in, but someone recently told me the latter explanation. My car is pretty original, and has push-in style, so I am skeptical of the screw-in description...
