the tickets for the 2015 Silverstone Classic are now available, it will be the 25th anniversary.
As the ACOC, are we going to attend?
-
Hi David, It would be great to have a stand again at the Silverstone Classic. This year I was racing on the Saturday in a Cobra so didn't spend much time on the ACOC Stand, but I heard the attendance was a bit sparse. It may be that the entrance tickets at £50 and £60 for each day put off some of our members. If there are enough who are prepared to man the stand and supply their ACs, then I am sure the Club will be prepared to book the space. What do you think?
Last month we had a stand with 4 ACs at the NEC Classic Car Show, and I took my Ace Bristol race car up on the Thursday and left it on the stand until Sunday evening. Jeremy and Tony Witt organised the stand and did a great job. I was a bit of a lightweight as I could only make the Sunday, but enjoyed chatting to interested parties, and being generally informative. Mind you it is quite tiring on your feet all day, never mind all 3 days!
I am sure this post will generate enough interest to make it happen. What do other members think?
-
Indeed it is a problem and about the owners wanting to put their cars on show. Silverstone Classic was a low turn out for the ACOC, although some nice cars were on show. Having been to Silverstone Classic for many years I will be attending next year and my AC hopeful will be able to part of the ACOC. As part of attending happy to my part on stand duty, but we do need others to attend and do a little stand duty.
Price wise, if ACOC are attending then there is a lowering of the price in that tickets are offered 2 for price of 1 (of course only useful if 2 attend).
What is the view of other ACOC members?
-
We were unfortunate to have had mechanical problems stopping the Greyhound from attending(turned out to be a bad batch of fuel!!!) but will be there in her again next year. I really like the event, and I`m sure we can get more than half a dozen AC`s there next year?
-
2 years ago there was some kind of club discount available to members attending the Classic generally. I seem to remember there was an ad in Action quoting a code to use? Does anyone know if that is the same this year please?
-
Silverstone Classic is due to be discussed at the monthly club meeting in February so hopefully we will know soon if the club is to attend
-
Do we have the Code for the AC Owners Club, with this we can purchase a 3 day ticket at a discounted price, there is an increase after 31 March.
-
At this month's Council Meeting we all agreed to make the Silverstone Classic part of the ACOC 2015 calendar of events and will reserve a Club Stand. Once we have an official booking, the organisers will release the Club discount code, which will allow members to purchase tickets at reduced prices. Watch this space! David if you would like to start mustering some troops to park their ACs on the stand so we have cover over the 3 days, I will be happy to give any help you may need. If we can start organising this early, it should not be too difficult to ensure we have at least 4 cars each day. Andy.

Only a few weeks away and finally received some information on where we will have our club area. I had responded once I knew where the club area was allocated and received the following e-mail:
You are in S13 which is the long wide grass bank next to the old brook lands track. Although you will be parked on the grass the track runs alongside it and you are next to the track, also the grass is usually very hard so not what you might call proper grass. We do try to site clubs where they want but sometimes are unable to due to the huge numbers attending and the jigsaw like fitting in.
I have attached the map with your position and that of the 289 register (at the opposite end) so hopefully that will be welcome.

Here`s the ACOC location on the Map sent to David:

Not a bad spot this year... you can possibly see some of the track from there!
-
Erm...
The above map(v.12) has been revised for some reason... this is the latest(v.15) issue:

Can`t see why they have shifted the ACOC, there appears to be no logical explanation.
Sadly, due to the passing of my stepfather this weekend, I won`t be at Silverstone on Friday, but hope to be there for Saturday & Sunday. [:(]
Also, Dad has other commitments, so cannot attend with the Greyhound. [V]

Have had e-mail correspondence with the organisers and they have now moved us to where the Ginetta's where positioned - which is roughly where we were on the original map shown in this post.
-
.
David.
Thank you for chasing up and confirming hopefully our final resting place, away from the Cobra Kits.
The price of tickets just keeps going up and up and up.
The respect the organisers have for our club is so bloody poor,
Last year they have my support.....
No wonder many of the club stands are so poorly attended compared with earlier days.
Bah Humbug !!!
Keith...[:(]..[V]..

Looks like you are next to the 289 Register Keith...
-
Weren`t, then were, now aren`t again! Keep up, Bob!!! [;)]
-
No ACOC flag!!!
No other ACOC members!!!
I suppose all the older ACs parked up in their garages or museum!!!!!!!!

Just back from a very wet but enjoyable day, many thanks to David Skittles for organising the club display over the three days.
Light on Car's today, due I guess to the horrible but unusually accurate weather forecast.

.Dave Skittles.
Your Dad is a hardy Soul, I would never have dreamt of putting my father through Fridays torrential rain, Saturdays overcast windy weather then a third day of yet more RAIN.........
Seriously, Nice to put a Face to a Name, thanks for your effort in changing the ACOC location not once but two or even three times.
Saturday, met up briefly with Peter De Rousset-Hall ( Minus Mobile, possible Insurance claim?) and a fair few members during the day.
Apologies to Nik Bagshaw, didn't mean to get side tracked by Family
to put tonneau on BEX333..[B)]
Sunday , Well soaked before I arrived and only had to drive 9 miles door to door, Late arrival, early departure, racing held up due to Torrential ......RAIN. Spent a few hours over in the New Paddock and Pits, a few more goes with Granddaughter and Family on the Dodgems and the Helter skelter which gets bloody fast when the slide is wet.
Then bumped into David Goose and offered him Shelter at home as he
definitely looked like he had been swepted overboard in a hurricane. I seemed the only daft soul without a hood or side screens...[:(]
Hardy or a slow learner [?].... no don't answer that.
Then really sensible decision, Go Home, Hot food, couple of drinks and some DRY clothes. Home sweet home..[:)]
Thanks Dave Skittle for organising the ACOC Location, really good spot for watching racing ACtion 9 /10...[:)]..Organising weather
3/10 ..[:(]..[V]...Seriously good to see 11 ACs on stand on Saturday
and meet up with some ACOC Members.

To those that survived Fridays rain, the luck ones that choice Saturday and then the unlucky ones that came to Sunday for rain and cold winds - thanks for representing the AC Owners Club over the 3 days.
We had a good position by Luffield with the track right behind our position and a gravel drive way in front so no problems with parking on the grass.
With Saturday being the busiest day with many questions, lots of interest and many photographs taken.
I hope next year everyone who came this year can attend next year and maybe bring along another member with an AC for our stand. As we attend these events we continue to represent and remind people of the AC Marque with the rich history and wide variation of cars built by AC.
Already looking forward to a, hopefully, dry Silverstone Classic in 2016.

It was great to talk to as many ACOC members as I could over the weekend, and Saturday`s turnout was the best I can remember for many a year, and I was particularly chuffed to see the RS Ace... Gorgeous!
Well done David, I hope everyone is drying out OK, I think it will take a while!
I think God must hate Silverstone, for as the last car took the chequered flag in the last race, the rain stopped, the wind dropped, and the sun even poked it`s head around a cloud!!! Looking forward to better next year already!

For those who missed all the thrilling action, an hour-long highlights programme will be screened tonight on ITV4 at 8:00pm with a follow-up repeat at 12:00am on Saturday 15 August and 10:45am on Sunday 16 August.

Far too much rain for my liking , I went home on sunday morning !
