Title: Lost another 4.5 kgs with a WOSP Starter
Post by: GSouthee on August 13, 2022, 12:46:01
Hi Just fitted a WOSP Hi Torgue starter to the Ol Girl as my original Lucas bomb starter burnt out.

It is the 1.4kw model and only weighs 4kgs as against 8.5kgs of the original.

Also only £50 more than a recon Lucas.

Seems to work just fine, must better spin up on starting.

Pics attached.

Will let you know how it goes lomg term.

Anyone used one of these?

Gary

Clearly The Starter you have is not for the AC Weller Engine, however i developed the AC Weller starter in conjunction with WOSP in about 2005/6, they were able to supply a 2 kilowatt Denso Pre Engaged starter body & an extended shaft & 11 tooth gear & i designed & made the prototype which was fitted to one on my new engines fitted to a Frazer Nash, which is still working well today!
WOSP then used this information to reproduce them whilst i continued to make my own!
I believe the 2 kilowatt starters are now replaced with the 1.4 Kilowatt units for the AC engines.

I have had a WOSP starter on my 3000ME for several years - no problems so far.

Cheers  Guys.

Robin no its not the AC engine it is a Triumph 6 in my 2 Litre saloon.

Changed it years ago as rebuilding the Weller lump too expensive and too slow.
