ACOC badge on eBay...dodgy description.
« on: August 14, 2013, 15:03:14 »
The listing reads:
"AC OWNERS CLUB CAR BADGE METAL ENMALLED AA RAC"

   The description:
"AC OWNERS CLUB METAL CAR BADGE
THIS BADGE DATES FROM THE 1960 AND HAS NEVER BEEN USED.
ITS BE IN A DRAW FOR YEARS AND IS IN PERFECT CONDITION
THE REAR IS MATT FINISH PLAIN.
   SIZE 110MM X 80MM X 3MM

(Click pic to go to listing)

I think it`s fair to say that one could find an unused EnAmelled 1960`s ACOC badge in a drawer, but "Jaffa2711" has sold at least 4 to my knowledge over the last few months, all with the same photo, and appears to be in the business of selling enamel badges.
   Smell something?

I asked him about that.

Here's my questions and his reply:

I bidded on this item, a while back. The photo is the same, and the seller (yourself) the same. Can you please advise (a) is this the same item, or different one? and (b) if the same, why it is being offered again?

   His reply:

I have more than one as I used to work at Marples and Beasley who made them

Did Marples and Beasley supply the ACOC? Jaffa2711 deals in enamelled badges and sells many enamel-badged keyrings. I just don't know....

Postscript - I've just seen that he has Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club and Land-Rover Owners Club badges, that are 'as new' also:

Hi,I Have just bought the badge referred to here and think its v. good value.
Having trudged fruitlessly around Beulieau auto jumble, after spending many months trying to find one. Seeing the few in ,varying conditions, that have appeared on ebay go for in excess of 100pds in some cases, I am very happy with this "new" item.

Matters not to me if its a copy, or original. I say hats off to anyone who can supply an item which is manifestly in short supply, and, if recently manufactured,is not put off by the spectre of litigation over the use of the logo, that has plagued the club.

Rather wierd, I must say that after all this time searching for a badge, to find that when I went on to eBay early this week, three had come along at once!

Glad you`re happy with your purchase. Do you think there is any age to it?
I`m a bit annoyed that I forgot about this scruffy one on eBay until after it sold for only £23!!!
This other one looks nice too, with 4 days to go currently @ £29.
