General Forum / An ACOC track day? Are you interested? Ideas?

I am gane too, but suspect it is not going to be viable. The cost to rent a cicuit is much higher than you have been told - you are looking at £10,000 minimum up to £35,000 for Silverstone. The other issue is noise - many circuits have a noise limit that cars like Cobras couldn't meet

How muuch did the bits cost, as a matter of interest?

Did it sell? The Coys site makes no mention of it in the results list, so I presume not. I was wondering what they would fetch. Someone selling an old 16/70 a couple of years ago told me he was offered £2,000 for the mascot from his a couple of years ago when he was trying to sell it.

Constant is too modest to say, that first in his class was.... him! It is great to see the 11 being used properly!

Bagshot radiators are guessing £300 - 400. they will give me a final quote Thursday when I drop it off to them. At that price, it is more interesting!

Do you remember how much you paid, Mike? Abbey Heat Transfer want £1350 +VAT, which seems far too much to me!

That sounds ideal, thanks. How much should I expect to pay? My inclination would be to get them to upgrade it because I gather the cooling has always been marginal, and that modern petrol burns hotter. Is that correct?

Well, I took the car to the festival of speed yesterday and she is still up to some of her tricks! Basically, the car runs about 10 deg hotter than I think it should. On the flat it shows about 80 deg when cruising at 45-50 MPH, which rises to 95 when idling in traffic and more when tackling steep hills. I have now had the engine apart and can be certain that it is running correctly and that there are no blockages in the block or head. The pump is OK, so it seems that the radiator must be the culprit. Who do we know that can look at the radiator and tell me if there are any blockages and whether it needs to be rebuilt?

I would take it off. I learned the hard way that the red goo soon breaks down and you start to lose water...

I use Castrol XXR 40 that I bought on the internet. Try googling it. I know it is a very bad idea to use modern spec oils in Pre War cars.

i just had exactly the same problem. I think the water feed was to enable water heating of the manifold, but on my 1937 car, it certainly serves no purpose. I used a new gasket set from Brian Eacott, which are (I think) paper based.

You shouldn't use the red gasket stuff on these. A small amount of silicone around the water feed is all that is needed - the rest should be installed dry

The club has a (I think) complete gearbox which is complete but slightly corroded, but looks serviceable to me.
