Pedant comment...[:o)]  Nik, I'm sure you meant to type CSX2126, right? [:D]

Arron, you're correct in that the current 'slang' term is meant to refer to a street 289 with standard fender flares. I prefer using 'street 289'.

Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / Nor'easter Tour
« on: September 19, 2013, 14:22:57 »
This was an annual tour put on by Tom Cotter. This one was a six day starting in Saratoga Springs, NY to Lake Placid to Vermont to Maine then NH and returning to Saratoga Springs. And yes, the attending cars are originals.
A couple cars had to retire along the way. One with a blown head gasket and another with a gear box issue.
The "assortment" ran from early worm & sector cars to early & late RP cars to a factory comp 427 to narrow hip 427 to a late 428 Cobra.
With the added "enjoyment" of lots of rain along the way.

Nick, Don't you think that many of the "original Cobras currently racing" are highly modified from their period racing configuration? [;)]

#21 has arrived in the middle of the USA!
Trevor, I like the idea of a printed cover rather than a dust cover that just gets torn :-)

The following information on CSX3016 was relayed to me and I was asked to post it here.

"After Grossman's wreck at Watkins Glen, the damaged complete car was acquired by his mechanic who removed the damaged portions of the body, repaired the frame tubes and then installed a '37 Chevy body to race it primarily on dirt tracks. It still even retained some of the original Cobra body in this configuration and still had the 427 engine, Halibrand wheels, original gauges, suspension, etc. Upon sale a few years later, the engine was removed and the car sat in the back of the new owners house for decades, where it suffered decay, but nonetheless it was acquired as a complete vehicle and the owner’s intention was to someday rebuild/restore the car with a new Cobra body, ie; it was not “parted out in ‘66”."

Recent ACs / New Continuation Cobras???

I think the difference between the cost of an original AC Cobra and a shiny new Kirkham would not be £200,000. More likely somewhere between £300,000 and £400,000, working from the latest 'creative' asking prices.

what a pity, as it stayed an very original street version 'til now ...

French Frie, That is not CSX3282. The car pictured is CSX3232 owned by Drew Serb. [;)]

Received a reply from the seller and you're correct it is a more modern version, not brass.

Can't tell if that is the old brass version or the more current one. Interesting that the seller will only ship to the UK.

Maybe the sellers expect a particularly good price in view of the car's history and the (alleged) fact that it is almost completely original, but USD 950,000 strikes me nevertheless as a little optimistic.

You think the vinyl seats are original? [:D][:D]
