Its time to go cap in hand to the Ace fraternity to see if anyone can throw any light on the screen in my car (AE01). I guess, as Ace registrar, I should know, but I don't!
Due to a recent crack in the glass, the screen needed to come off, and whilst I was pretty sure it was a unique size, it wasn't until Cris at Brasscraft admitted to being stumped that it clearly was.
Sizewise its about 40mm wider, and 30mm shorter (in height) than a standard curved screen. It also has angled arms as in the photos, so it mounts with the arms at quite an angle going forward into the bodywork.
Angle wise its virtually at 45deg. to horizontal.
My assumption, and it is only that, is it was specially made for track racing in the cars Bob Staples days to give slightly wider coverage, less height and more angle to minimise drag...But it is only that, just an idea. Its also true that the majority of races were done with a minimal racing screen. So why would a more standard screen be necessary at all.....race regs in some cases?
So, anyone out there with competition based cars seen or heard of anything similar please?

(As an aside the screen itself will have to be specially made so kind of glad its an insurance job!)

   The photos show:
O/s screen pillar in place with vertical over horn push
   Screen off car on floor
   Screen off car, upright
The n/s and o/s underbody mounts showing the angle and different holes poss for different angulation

At Bonhams, Quail, on Aug 15 is this very nice looking example

   http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21917/lot/273/

If it did reach the guide price it would be a high point, at least at auction for an AC engined car, and its not MM eligible either.

   Also this Cobra CSX 2119:

   http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21917/lot/260/

(If you fancy spending a bit(!) more try this which will likely beat all previous records, with an estimate of >$50m:

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / SU carb air filters

Anyone had any experience of good alternative (but still in keeping) options to the old narrow style wire and guaze types?
Having just had the car on the rolling road with poorish results on a fully rebuilt engine, I was told to throw away whats on the car and get something with better breathing!
   Like:
   http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=56-1630

   Or of course could just go for ram pipes like;
   http://sucarb.co.uk/air-filters-ram-pipes/ram-pipes.html

Obviously not much dust/dirt filtration with latter.

May 15-18, and there are 5 AC's running, 4 Aces and an Aceca, must be a record?
   See link for entry list:
   http://www.1000miglia.eu/2014-Edition/Provisional-Starting-List/
Look in 1954 and onwards, Steve Gray at 298, but might be tough for our cars to beat the Martin Brundle/Bruno Senna D Type!! (No. 410)
