Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace badges
« on: August 03, 2016, 23:53:33 »
Anyone happen to have, or know of someone who has surplus/spare, the correct circular (front and rear bodywork) AC badges for the AC engined Ace....please?
I imagine these are the same for several different models, Saloon?, Aceca? maybe others.
After over 40 years of ownership of AE01, I for some reason or other suddenly feel the urge to get the correct badges on the car, why not, better late than never!

Another early car has moved on in Germany, no further details at this stage:
   http://www.thiesen-kg.de/en/angebot_einzelansicht.html
When the full set of phgotos were on the site it certainly wasn't a concours car.
When I asked them a month or so ago what they were asking for the car I was told about 320k euro, so about £250k, confirming early Ace price levels nowadays

Sold at auction y'day. Seems a pretty reasonable price, could be rebodied or just enjoyed for a lot less cost than an original car!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / AEX 160 to auction April 23
« on: April 14, 2016, 17:55:19 »
As here, the ex Walter Padow car, and a very detailed write up and photos:
   http://www.worldwide-auctioneers.com/auctions/details.cfm?vehicleID=54&id=54
Would probably be a record price if achieved in the range quoted....

This Ace has gone through two dealers in the last 6-12 months, and Im pretty sure is consigned by the last one, Driversource, who are in Houston also :    http://www.driversource.com/

Interestingly there is also a Buckland in the same auction:
   http://www.worldwide-auctioneers.com/auctions/details.cfm?vehicleID=41&id=54
   Another very robust price estimate!

Do any of our American friends know this auction house, as its not one I've come across before?

Following his class win in the above, John Gott commissioned a painting by Michael Turner. An image of this appears on P120 of Rinsey Mill's book "AC 6 cyl sports cars". I asked Rinsey if I could get a copy, thinking it had come from the original painting, but apparently it was taken from a card produced by the ACOC, maybe for Xmas? some years back. Even Michael Tuner does not have a copy on file.
So the question is does anyone know of this, and maybe still have a copy stashed away somewhere that I could beg/buy/borrow please? You never know!

Apologies if this copy of a photo I took from Rinsey's book is not exactly as it should be. Trying to get an image link from Flickr seems close in complexity to getting a rocket to dock with the International Space station.......

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / tyres
« on: August 03, 2015, 14:47:13 »
Just in case you were thinking that you really must get some new rubber for your car, this is a good offer for this week only, on Michelin, 4 for the price of 3.
Of course its not just Ace's, so have a look at the sizes. For the 550x16R on the Ace it works out at £130 inc VAT per tyre (normal price £174), inc delivery; and you get a free entry to a draw for tickets and accomodation at the Goodwood Revival.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / AEX 221
« on: June 24, 2015, 21:18:56 »
This was a 'lost' car on the register, ie we had no record since it was ex works on 20.12.57 - a nice Christmas present maybe?!

So it was great to find that not only was it not lost, but the current owner has had the car since 1970!

Its now for sale through Daniel Rapley in New Milford CT, contact there is Michael Maddalena, who sent me these details, following the club giving info to him, ie via myself:

So I am pleased to tell you that AEX 221 is officially on the market. Here is a link to some photos of the car as it sits.

   https://flic.kr/s/aHskdGMfPs

   - the Ace was delivered in export configuration (LHD) to an American serviceman while serving in Paris.
   - Brought to the US with perhaps one or two short term owners (in New York State). One possibly a Sargeant Tanner, before it went to a long time owner of 45 years (the current).
   - Mechanically freshened in 1970 then cosmetics in 1977. Cosmetics not to a high standard. Only a few thousand miles since. Runs well as is.
   - As you already know, it is red with black vinyl interior. The lucky next owner will have the pleasure of returning it to the special order and rare color of silver with blue leather trim.

Our price is $195,000 USD. A silver ACE (Bristol powered) sold in 2012 at auction for $308,000. This is not Bristol powered.

For those that like a bit of military history (in this case USAF), the early storyof this car and its owner is fascinating. It was sold to Chardonnet, AC's Paris/French distributor, for a Capt J M Glickstein Jnr of the 492nd Fighter Bomber Squadron based at Chaumont, slightly to the North of the centre of France.

This Wikipedia link, explains the squadron's base in France at the time of the cold War:

   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/492d_Fighter_Squadron

It shows that the squadron moved to Lakenheath in Jan 1960, so maybe the AC spent some time in the UK with the good Capt, who knows? Its also not clear when exactly it went to the US. Maybe some of our good friends there know more about this seemingly lost car?
