Don't know if it helps, but this style of Otter switch was also used on sixties MGs and Series Landrovers and, no doubt, several other British vehicles.  Not aware of any current availability new.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Weather etc. protection

Well, the framework tube protection is authentic then - a very easily chipped coat of black complete with runs and missed bits!  Fine by me...

So, Barrie - not a fan of clear plastic adhesive stone chip protection, then?  I was thinking of some, at least around the sills.

3M drip check now ordered - thanks again Luke

Thanks Luke - nice to know I'm not a long way off accepted practice!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace Dashboard Questions

Beware - there are a number of PRS7 switches, including the column-mounted light switch for a '70s Triumph Stag.  Any old PRS7 won't do.

Was the dash on the Ace (or Cobra) actually covered in leather?  I thought Cobras were grained leathercloth, same as Healeys etc.

Is the original style the same as the early big Healey?

Thanks - I'll get on to them and see how it goes.  It looks like Vesconite Hilube may be a better bet?
Are your wishbone pins hard chrome plated?

   Thanks again,

Thanks Lew, - did you use it for everything, kingpins, spring eyes etc?  Where can you get it, and does it come in stock sizes or does it need machining?
   Roger

edit - looking at their website, they suggest different machining tolerances are needed.  Did you allow for this, or did you copy the stock parts?
Sorry for all the questions - while it's in bits I'd like to get it right!

I have used Evans in my cars for many years now - Healeys, Mustangs, Cobra - I even put it in my 'modern'* BMW last year.  When I drain it to do other work on the car, it always amazes me how smooth and clean the water passages and hoses seem to be.  Never had any boiling over either, but judging by the literature I'd be in serious trouble by the time it got to boiling point!

As said earlier, I think you deserve a medal!  You have expended a lot of energy and time, not to mention stress, in organizing this and speaking personally I am extremely grateful.
It sounds as though we will get there before too long - and anyway, it won't beat my diff rebuild, which took the specialist 20 months...

Any news on progress, Keith?

I greatly value the brave decision to start all this, and offer my wholehearted support to you for continuing to see it through.  Not easy, I'm sure - but speaking personally I'm extremely grateful!

I absolutely agree - I have had to use a square-buttoned cap for the last 6 years, what's a few weeks wait for the right thing?  The quality of a classic car restoration lies entirely in the detail...

   Thanks, Keith

I don't understand why they are having to consider a different material - Ceandess still make and sell the later style cap with the square button, which shouldn't be any more difficult to make - can't they use the same techniques with a new pattern, or is there something I'm missing here?  Wouldn't be the first time!
