A quick reminder that the Early bird ticket offer ends 31st March. Tickets will still be available after 31st March but will be at the Standard Advance Ticket price  - these are then available up to 31st May.

Silverstone 2018
Some of the highlights for the 2018 event include an incredible array of early Grand Prix cars marking 70 years since Silverstone’s first British Grand Prix in 1948, a special spotlight on more than 60 years of epic endurance racing history with a spotlight on Daytona plus the debut of Masters Endurance Legends at the Silverstone Classic, and Tin Top Sunday celebrating the 60th anniversary of BTCC with no less than 4 touring car grids racing and a very special celebratory Parade.

Just a quick reminder about the Silverstone Classic Festival - early bird tickets are available until 31st March.

The first big music band for the festival has just been announced  -UB40

This year it is 60 years of BTCC that it celebrated with a numbers of races covering cars from 60's and 70's including the US cars from the 60's

Harrier,

that is a very subjective point - I have not driven an Angliss car so hard to comment  and therefore leave to others to comment but I own DE1061 which is the first post Angliss Ace.
AC did make changes to the post Angliss cars, these being:

Chassis - is suppose to be 20% lighter by reducing number of welds by 50%, ground clearance improved, its states "structural integrity improved and more space"
they modified the front and rear subframes to be stronger / lighter and also modified the suspension geometry

Body, the bonnets was changed from Aluminum to a Carbon Fibre composite with lights to now rectangular (from Mazda 323)

which AC states  saves 120kg

AC did seem to get the suspension geometry wrong and the initial build quality was poor - but I think the build quality improved following the poor test reports from DE1061, certainly Autocar tested a blue supercharger and made comment on the improvement in build quality. But even then there was still some issues like the suspension geometry.

There is only 9 that were built during the 1997 - 2003 period how many were actual built at Brooklands from this period I do not think is clear but Hawk289 (AC Brooklands Ace Registrar) has stated that AC Brooklands was involved with each car.

I would go and see it take it for a drive - these are GT's not sports cars and will be great to drive on a summers day.

Maybe Hawk can offer more information

Hi Nigel,

my car use to pink badly when under load (heavy acceleration), this was all done on a rolling road, in my case Northampton Motorsport.
I would suggest it is worth taking the car to a rolling road to check

Hi Nigel,

Personnally I think it would be wise to have the electrics checked.

Do you know if your car has had the supercharger modifications?

so never made 2017 completion but 1st month of 2018 we have finished getting the car working again. As a re-cap the car had a number of problems which required, up to end of 2016, a full exhaust system, removal of the US gas re-circulation system, the replacement of the fuel delivery system from the fuel pump to the injectors.

Part of these problems is down to the way AC built the supercharged engines which was just to bolt a supercharger onto an engine which meant to much air not enough fuel with a hard coded ECU unable to make the changes. The story is on the superblower AC owners club site.

So we have stripped out any electrical cabling that not required as AC took looms and just left cables in the car that were not required. We have had to get a car electrician to make the electrical cabling safe - he was surprised how bad the changes made to the cabling was and that the car had not caught fire  :o. Could be that S50ACE had the same problem as this car did catch fire.

We have installed a new ECU from MOTEC, replaced the sensors, coil packs and used an engine map from a Superblower that was rebuilt last year but to a much higher spec.  Retuned it on rolling road in Northampton and finally have a car that works - final output at the wheels is 298bhp/340 lbs torque and we have limited to 5500 revs following advise from Peter Knight.

So now I can start thinking about sanding down and re-painting the sub frames - when it is a bit warmer.

On the hot running front the gauge was under reading so when showing 100 degrees was actually running 105 which is way to hot.

So have replaced the missing sheet metal running from front bumper to front of the sub-frame as we thought that we could be losing air flow by it dropping through this space. However, we could not get the car to run below 100 degrees still therefore we went back to the initial thought and removed the grill  - this seems to have worked and the car now runs up to 90 degrees the fan kicks in and drops to high 80's and stays in this cycle.
As the grill had the AC owners badge stuck on the grill will try and remove the badge and refit. In theory it will make a small difference, estimate that it is blocking approx. 30% of airflow. The grill and badge together we estimate blocks 70% of the airflow and I have heard to Lotus elevens having wire grill installed to stop stone damage and the grill actually blocked all airflow  - so this is not an easy problem to resolve.

Anyone else had same problem and how did you resolve

thanks David

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Quick couple of questions
« on: January 12, 2018, 09:35:01 »
So 1.5 years since the car failed its MOT due to emissions finally have it back together and a fresh MOT certificate issued. But I have two questions:

1. Hot running, I am sure I read a post about our cars running typically at the top of the temperature gauge. Mine runs between 95 - 100, has anyone come up with away to solve the hot running?

2. Underneath the car the bumper section has screw holes as does the front of the sub-frame which would indicate that between these sections there must have been some form of underside protection  - possible chicken wire or even a fibre glass/plastic section to stop road crud or stones. So the question is do you have any thing fitted between the bumper section and the front sub-frame?
