In a German internet marketplace http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat...fterCreation=1 a Mk IV Lightweight (AKL 1411) is offered for sale at 59,000 €, which price appears to be incredibly low in view of the asking prices that could be seen for similar cars in the recent past. There are some oddities, the ad says, e.g., that the car was originally registered in 1987 while the ACOC register indicates 1992 as production year and the pictures in the ad show some features such as a 'modern' dashboard that are not typical for a Lightweight. Generally, however, I believe it is the real AKL 1411 and looking at the pictures it is in pretty good shape. Does anybody know more about this car?
-
The ad is already deleted ...

Oops... In fact, it was your link which was wrong : http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/cobra-andere-ac-cobra-bj-1987-liebhaberfahrzeug-rees/171439123.html?lang=de&pageNumber=4&__lp=7&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=price.consumerGrossEuro&makeModelVariant1.makeId=6200&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariantExclusion1.searchInFreetext=false&negativeFeatures=EXPORT
Hope it works... And indeed a very interesting offer !

Car is sold
-
already ? not a surprise, if real and as described ! do you know who's the lucky guy ?
-
It was real and as described....
-
Let us know, Uwe [;)] ...
-
I tried to get it.......too late. It was offered by the owner himself via his own company.
-
So it was a bargain, indeed !
-
Hobo, come on, tell us the story....
Uwe

Ok. Ok, it was me (again)...I simply couldn't let pass this opportunity.
I have been a liitle bit shy due to the fact that the world is ruled by enviousness and malevolence….more I won’t say……moreover from the moment of first contact with the seller up to the moment I could unload the car in my snakepit I couldn’t believe that I will get AKL1411 in reality.
The car is in an absolute original condition (with exeption of the engine – see below).
Build in 91 as to the VIN-No or 1992 as to the ACOC registry the first owner has been Auto-Becker in Düsseldorf a well known dealer of luxury cars. Due to change in emission standards the car got the first road permission in 1997.
Auto Becker went bankrupt in 2002/03.
AKL1411 with a bunch of other cars came under control of the liquidator who took AKL1411 into his private ownership.
Disappointed from the moderate power of the engine, AKL1411 has been modified (cam, heads, carbureator (instead of EFI)).
Even this was not enough and seems that the owner lost interest in the car. AKL1411 has been stored in a barn from 2005 for 7 years up to now.
I got the car with all the original equipment like tonneau cover, soft top, spare wheel including the original tires from 1991 mounted (!) and all the engine parts of the original set up.
I have to admit the the colour-combination is a little bit special (jaguar racing green, white stripe with small golden stripes beside; light tan interior), however it is so special that you can love it (again)…. I will do so.
I will refurbish the car without any modification.
AKL1411 will go through a carefully cosmetic recondition only and will get the old engine set up with EFI again.
Being in the original condition down to the last nut and bolt it will be back on the road.
P.S.:
I’m away from my home……but yes, yes photos will come next days.

Congratulations, Martin! A great car, and definitely a bargain.

Love the beige seats with the green piping. Looks great.
Nice car, congratulations.
-
It's a real beauty! Good job!
-
Interesting car Martin. Good purchase!
-
verrrrrrrrrry good purchase, indeed !
is it the underboot tank that is seen on the fourteenth pic ?
-
Yes indeed, this pic shows the underboot tank.
-
Martin,
Looks like antisway bars are not fitted to the back end. How about the front?
-
You are right there is no antiswaybar in the back - even not in the front.
If car is back on the road again I will test how it feels without any antisway bar.
Uwe (Westcott) told me that he also drives without having any.
Is it known that antisway bar was included generally - or option only?
-
I do not know for AKL (I thought they were equiped), but AK cars didn't have ARB standard (unless buyer asked for them)... I read that Angliss wanted a comfortable ride, and didn't think they were useful for cruising on US highways [;)] !
-
Hello Martin
again congratulations , just in case you don t know: In the magazine Sport Auto from April 1997 is a test and a discription of exactly your car. I think you can buy it for a small amount on ebay.
Jürgen
.
-
and it would be (copyrights permitting) great to scan and publish here this article [;)] !
-
There have been features of a similar age uploaded to the forum, shouldn`t be a problem. [:)]
-
Even the ugly bracket on the tunnel is visible in the Sport Auto cover story... ;-)
Uwe
-
Many thanks for the hint Jürgen....always good to have this excellent Britsch Forum to communicate - even we live in the same town in Germany :-)))))).
Just bought it on ebay.......I'm very excited :-)).
Copyright is going to be a more and more bigger issue in these days....it doesn't matter how old an article is....Copyright is valid for ever.
Moreover you have many persons, companies involved in one press article....the author, the photograph...all with their own Copyrights.
You realy run in trouble in publishing things you have no rights on. Fines of 1000 € or more are normal in these days. There is a huge legal "industry" developing only to sue you for fines.
-
you're probably right... if not published here, could you please send copies by email ?
-
No problem.
If I have it in my hands I will simply ask.
If not permitted to publish I will send copies.
