Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / The Ol Girl's progress
« on: August 16, 2019, 17:26:43 »
Just an update on the ol' girls progress.

Rear air shocks fitted in place of the old lever arm shocks.

Sort a pair of rear wheels from the good ol' US of A 6.5 inch 16's now fitted wth 205/80 radials, original front 16 inch rims fitted with 175/80 radials.

Converted front brakes to later 2 cylinder  drums.

All wings now resprayed in Granite Grey by a firm in Rye Sussex. Bottom half of car spayed by me also in Granite Grey.

Top half, boot, bonnet, nose etc all being sprayed in original light green specially mixed for me in cellulose.

Triumph TR6 radiator and 16 inch electric fan fitted.

Just got fit wings and re fit all the bits and bobs.

All while now taking out 140 foot of hedge and putting in a fence, getting a new puppy and keeping out of the wife's way in case she finds me something else to do.

Will have her at the Sprint.

Gary

Oh forgot

fitted new kingpins to front axle.

Cut boot floor out over spare wheel well so now bigger boot, new tyres wont fit in it anyway.

Moved Battery to spare wheel well, always seemed daft that the battery sat on the top of the bulkhead.

Now where is my shovel another fence post to fit.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / wheel stud thread pitch
« on: June 20, 2019, 09:18:32 »
Hi Members,

Can anyone tell me what the wheel stud thread pitch is for the 2 litre saloon, as I have lost my thread measuring thingy.

Here's hoping

Yep no joy yet, the one I did get unfortunately was too far gone around the bolt holes.

I am trying to find another vehicle that has same PCD as the 2 Litre which according to my measurements is 5 inch(127mm) by 5. I don't really want to go away from AC rims but will consider something similar as long as will under rear arches.

Cheers and hoping someone out there has one.

Hi any news if anyone has taken this on board, was going to check in Action but no sign of it yet!

Would be a shame if the club does not attend.

I have been thinking about offering to take it on but I would not be looking at using ferry for crossing, also not to fussed about the Chateau element but would stick with it for the sake of those that do.

Would those wishing to attend fancy going via Eurotunnel?  Let me know your views before I even bother considering it more in detail.

Cheers  Gary

Ps I note that action has reached Cologne, just not got to me !!!

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / New rad in my 2 litre saloon
« on: May 09, 2019, 11:51:53 »
Yep I know it's not an AC rad but the neither is my engine. I found the old AC rad could not cope with cooling engine so sourced a USA Triumph TR6/250 rad 4 core job. offered up and a bit long so the lower pipe now runs under and up behind the cross member with original  TR6 pipes and an alloy connector to adjust the angle. Top pipes are TR6 with a fan thermo switch joiner fitted. The rad actually sits on the original AC brackets and rubbers. I made a new alloy sheet that fits in the nose cone with a dropped front to scoop up a bit more air. Now,all I need to do is fit the AC rad shroud with a couple of mods.

So Far so good.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Ol' Girls latest state.

Hi Just an update on the position with the Ol’ Girl.

Well she is now minus wings both front and rear for a bare metal respray, I am just trying to decide the exact colour Grey. Also go to beat out and fill a couple of small dings etc.

The Boot Spare wheel cover bonnet and nose cone are also off getting ready for a respray in original Green as is the rear section of the body as It got a nice dent in it care of some careless driver in local village, who buggered off without leaving a note.

May do roof (probably will) but will see how new paint blends in at base of roof section.

Radiator out being replaced by a TR6 4 core one to help keep the engine cooler as the AC won’t cut it.

Rear lever arm shocks off and now sold to a MGTC owner who paid an extortionate amount for them, (well in my opinion). Still they are pretty rare I suppose. Now working on the telescopic shock frame from a 1953 model, making a couple of mods as also going to fit Monroe air shocks to assist with ride height when rear seat and boot laden. Need to modify the top mount to take a loop fitting instead of the pin fitting. Then fit the airline into the boot wall for easy filling with air. Should make a great improvement over the lever arms.

Now looking at the wheels and with luck going to 16” wheels with radials and tubes. Hopefully a fine member has the last one I am looking for. Need to have a bit more grip for braking and general road holding especially as now running with approx. 140bhp

Here’s a couple of pics of her in bits. Oh and the little white Renault 4 is Irma La Douce The Ol’ Girls new stable mate.

For those interested I’ll stick some pics of Shock Absorber conversion as I go along.

Hi has anyone managed to get a 2 litre Rad re-cored, mine has developed a leak and the core looks a bit battered. I tried 2 local guys but they said cant be doen because of this and that etc and I lost the will to live with them.

If any member has had one doe please let me know who to go to, or has anyone tried a different Rad?

Heres a link to another 2 litre for a brave soul.

Again seems a bit too much considering its condition.

Hi see this link.  Shame pics are not of a suitable size to see car fully, but it looks good. However £25,500 is probably a bit strong me thinks or are 2 litre prices really going up?
