I know the car, This was restored by a well known car collector years ago and really not driven much since. A true 4 Speed car. very nice! Also, the minilite wheels are also factory. A true rare classic. Used it as a model as well as Jeffrey's when I did my bodywork.

Mine is really an AC 427 convertible!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: I have trouble to believe the story about the finished Cobra MK3 chassis. I think these were used for the AC289 and maybe some early MKIVs. The Frua chassis is longer and the cross-members are in a different place. It would not be worth it to modify an existing chassis to fit the Frua. The Main tubes would have to be replaced. May as well start from scratch!

428 Frua Forum / Exhaust manifold
« on: October 10, 2015, 21:03:04 »
Here are the photos, These will be stainless steel of try Y configuration which is a big step up compared to the shorty headers we made before. The design is based on some 60's racing Cobras. It is very similar to 60's Corvettes racing exhaust or even the exhausts found on 60's Ferraris.

This is for the mark III, the one above (Right Side) almost fits the Frua, the one at the bottom (left Side) will have to be staggered like the right side.

This is the way it looks on my car. we will adjust the angle to give more clearance. Cost will be reasonable. Jeffrey and I both will get a set, and then we will have a pattern for those who want a set. Long headers make a huge difference in both power and torque compared to shorties. I will ceramic coat mine inside out to reduce heat as much as possible.

Of course, the original manifolds which were  lifted from a ford pick up truck completely restrict the engine.

Hi Paul,

"Car 54 reporting" I am here, the car is getting back together slowwwwwly.

I just saw the rebuilt calipers yesterday, newly blasted, painted new pistons and seals. Incidentally, we found a stock MKIII Girling clutch fork, master cylinder, slave cylinder and bracket to replace the Kit car system used previously (Bracket and slave cylinder out of a 59 Ford pickup, we had issue sizing the Girling master cylinder. I never liked it! My clutch was very light but the travel was way too long (like that of a truck) and I did not like it. It will be heavier but I think much better. This not a "girly" car anyway! Should feel just like a big block Cobra. Jeffrey, this will work for you as well since you have the same 59 Ford system on your car.

   Better than new.

Paul, I think the battery is probably in the best place, for optimal balance. I think a better physical separation between tank and battery would have been the solution like a bulkhead in the convertible and truly separated tanks in the coupe with a selector switch like Jaguar Xj6 and 12. I have more photos to post, like the insulation around the foot boxes and the firewall done using very light aircraft heat shield materials to replace the original asbestos materials which were grossly ineffective and dangerous. The car should be quieter and most of all cooler inside. I am currently traveling until this weekend and will post them when I return.

Yes,  Paul you  are right, in this case the battery is very low in the boot and the petrol tank is forward above with floor board separating the two. In the coupe however, each tanks is on the side wings. one of them next to the battery with a large pipe right in front of the rear bumper acting as an equalizer. Not the safest system. But these are cars designed in the 60's and not much concern was given to safety then.

   Beautiful nevertheless!
