In 2011 Peter Bradfield imported a very low mileage early Cobra in first rate order (no side vents, narrow arches, worm & sector etc).

A shed load of recent 'improvements' make it the 2014 standard-issue go-faster product, far removed from the AC original.

As recently as 2013, CSX 2016 was a concours car residing in Italy. It was featured in the German edition of Octane magazine's 3/13 issue. It would be highly unlikely therefore that the car pictured is the original 2016. The real car does have both a 289 along with the original 260, the latter of which was on an engine stand.

Jason Wright, an enthusiastic historic (term used advisedly) racer who lives in Italy, bought the original CSX2016 in 2012. It is he who is driving car number 94 in Aaron’s photo.

Whether car number 94 is the ‘improved’ original or a newly-built clone has yet to be established. Factual information one way or the other would be most welcome.

The car in the photo was indeed raced last weekend by Jason Wright, it was only the cars second outing, the first was at Donington at the beginning of this month.

In my last communication with Jason, he was adamant that the car retained its original front clip, and insisted that earlier reports that the car had been repaired in the 70's with a later clip using the slightly wider front flares were incorrect. He based this on conversations with the former owner in the U.S. He also stated that the car was to have its original 260 engine reinstalled in the interest of originality. Given his penchant for originality, as well as the immaculate condition of the car as featured in Octane's German edition just last year, it would surprise me if the pictured car was the same one, given the various modifications that would irretrievably alter its originality.

Let's hope it is a Klone.
