Title: Cobra generator
Post by: rsk289 on December 06, 2016, 19:33:47
Can anyone tell me which Lucas dynamo leafspring COB/COX 289 Cobras had fitted?  Was it C40 or C40L?  The handbook describes a C40-1, but I can find no reference to this in the Lucas parts books and wonder if it is a mis-reading of C40L.  Alternatively, if anyone could tell me the measurement between the inside faces of the mounting flanges on a Cobra generator that would help greatly...

   Thanks

Would it not have been fitted with the Lucas C40T- tacho drive?

Hi Mark, yes, it should be the C40T.  I wasn't sure if it was the C40T or the C40LT, but John Bessey has very helpfully sent me a photo of the markings on a car he is restoring and it's the C40 casing.  The only difference between non-tacho and tacho drive is the end plate and the armature shaft - the casing is the same with or without tacho.  However the C40L casing is longer (hence the L!) and won't fit.
