Posting this for informational purposes only. Beautiful car.

Wow. Really stunning!

What`s the story with the balance tube on the header? Increased torque, extractor-style?
I don`t recall seeing this done elsewhere.

BEX 1090 sold for $217k at RM Auctions in Jan 2011. It definitely looks much better than old photos on the AC Ace and Aceca site (the balance tubes were on the headers at that time).

If you look at the Fantasy Junction photos closely, or even not so closely, it seems that this Ace has a seriously flawed front end.
The grill is too upright or even tilted back (a la Siata). The body work over the grill is too wide and flat.
It looks like it just ran into a wall and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole car is shorter than normal overall.
Any one else?
-
Yep. It`s like the bottom lip comes out too far & the top is set back.
Good eye, Jim!
-
funny how that makes it look so different. It's a small difference, but makes it look like a bulldog with it's bottom jaw sticking out!
-
And it has a closed brother:

They sent me an email about this car. I'll be in Holland in December. I'm going to take a look at it.
BTW, Peter, I'll be visiting Berit one of those days, any chance I can come and have a look at your projects? I arrive into Amsterdam on December 13th.

It looks like neither bodyshop had an example to work with.
It is difficult to figure out how such a huge mistake could occur.
I remember early Bristol advertising making the point that it featured "balanced extraction.," i.e. firing into each separate exhaust pipe sequencially.
That (ugly) crossover pipe would negate that advantage.
-
Jim, What is it that you find wrong with the black Aceca?
I appreciate some detail issues, but it looks like the body work is generally correct? Not?

Compared with BE 722 when new (above), the car in Holland appears not to enjoy the flowing lines from the front wing across the door to the tail.
-
Also the nose is 'abrupt', appearing almost vertical & inline with the headlights, possibly accentuated by the absence of bumpers, but compare to This Aceca (http://"http://www.flickr.com/photos/telkine/6956029560/").
-
If you compare this with the nose of BE646 I think the flat nose is not normal:

The uneven line of the reflections along the side tell a story, and on the alternative photos the roof and rain gutter line also looks unusual.

I don't think the Aceca's nose is nearly as bad as the FJ Ace's.
The last pages of the Houtcamp pics show how horribly the car had been treated.
Houtcamp also has a blue Aceca in their catalog. There is a nearly identical angle of the two cars that shows the subtle difference.
-
BEX 1090 had been sadly treated as well
http://www.acaceca.de.tl/BEX-1090.htm
I wonder if the grill misalignment came from the damage shown there.
$345,000 seems like a lot of money for this car.
-
the nose on my Aceca is also flat, not like Peter's car. It seems that the AC bristol rakes back and is not correct, but is being hand built cars, I doubt that they all are exactly the same...

Here is a link to another post I had started a few weeks ago about some of the Ace's and Cobras at Fantasy Junction. The first photo is of the blue LHD Ace in question which has a close up of the front end
http://www.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2513
Photobucket seems to have changed their format so was unsure how to post this particular photo, so pasted in the link above instead.

It is hard to be sure if the defect that seems so obvious in the brochure photos shows on this one.
I guess you are going to have to force yourself to visit FJ again and get an eyeball confirmation or not.
I was there years ago. It was a little slick, but maybe that just came from being unable to approach the kind of money they deal in.
-
Such a hardship going there (not!) [:D]
-
I see what you mean about the upright nose. It doesn't look right at all, but nothing a few thousand wouldn't sort out. Looking at the Fantasy Junction photos it appears to have another major problem. Lack of oil dripping from the engine, gearbox and diff! Perhaps it has been stored dry, but I have never seen such an oil free Ace underside!
-
If you look at other cars they've sold (BEX307, 378, 450) with similar photos, BEX1090 appears to have the upper lip of the nose more laid back. The closeups of the front headlight area seem to show a lengthening distance for the grill opening bottom to top for the 3 sold cars vs. BEX1090.
It also shows in the side profile as the line from the hood to grill drops more rapidly much more like the Ferrari 166.
As to the cleanliness, I believe this car has been on and off the market for a couple years and probably has very few miles since restoration.
-
An other one, not so far away.

It's a replica though. Anyway, a nice car.
-
wow, quite the drop in asking price from last year. If I recall correctly the asking price then was 147K UK pounds.... This is probably more on par with reality.

...As discussed HERE (http://"http://www.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1707"), from 2010.

Thanks Nik!
I was off by 2 grand. Still, at the current asking price you would not be able to do this for less.

Found this video of BEX 1090 on YouTube when it was for sale at another dealer. Lots of good information and shots of the frontal area that seems in question.

Here is a photo of BEX 1090 that I took a few months ago posted on the forum in another topic. When I am over toward the dealer I can go in and get more detailed pictures if anyone is interested.

I went back to the original FJ brochure photos linked in the beginning of this post.
All the pics show the raked-backed grill. Looking at the closeups (http://www.fantasyjunction.com/img/cars/large/64157.jpg and http://www.fantasyjunction.com/img/cars/large/64160.jpg) of both sides of the grill, one can see what the bodyman did. The side of the grill opening should taper from top to narrower at the bottom; in this car they are the same, causing the grill and grill opening to be vertical.
I don't think that this variation is in the realm of being "hand made."
-
I was at Fantasy Junction the other day and saw this car again and took a few close up pictures. Not sure if they clear up anything concerning the front end of this car, but putting these on here anyway.
