Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca barn find
« on: June 01, 2011, 22:14:49 »
Well here is one for the book. I know that Aceca prices are rising but based on this car any decent model should be worn 6 figures plus......££££££'s that is.  I told my wife that the one I bought was an investment!

I thought it would be straightforward. Loosen off the exhaust and replace the 'cotton reel' shaped exhaust mount, which is really a large metal washer and bolt top and bottom betwixt which is the rubber to stop your dental fillings being shaken out thro' vibration. After taking the split article around numerous motor experts no one can recognise what car this simple piece of engineering came off. The nearest is a Renault but in reality it is smaller and less substantial. Maybe it was a rear gearbox mount originally off some make. As there are six on the back half and a question of time before the others go and the car gets an MOT failure. Can any of you knowledgeable chaps shed some light.
   Thanks

Can anyone enlighten me as to the brake pads used on the early Superblowers. The early SB's were effectively MK IV's that were uprated. The car I have been asked about is the first AC produced car fitted with a supercharger - 1997. Mine (1999) is fitted with AP Racing brakes but were these fitted to early SB's or indeed MK IV's per se. Thanks in anticipation of your enlightenment.

General Forum / Surrey meet & Christmas lunch
« on: November 17, 2008, 17:31:25 »
Good to see those that could make it at The Parrot, Forest Green yesterday. A very handy venue for me as I live so close I did not get out of 3rd gear. I have spoken with the owner - Linda - and she will be delighted to welcome us in the future and have The Parrot as the official meeting point for the Surrey Chapter of the ACOC.
Those gathered decided that a Christmas lunch would be a good idea and so in the normal organised way we will have Xmas lunch in January. The suggested date is the 18th but I am just awaiting confirmation from Linda that a suitable room can be made available. An idea on numbers would help so anyone interested in this provisional date please advise via this forum

General Forum / The Cobra name
« on: September 25, 2008, 21:03:13 »
Here is an ACOC Trivia question.
What year was it that Ford took back the rights to the use
of the name Cobra? I know that Brooklands under AL used it
   throughout the '90's under licence...but!!!?
I believe that it was in 2000 but which month/date
   I do not know.
Forget answers on a postcard the Forum will do

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Heat shield
« on: September 23, 2008, 21:49:26 »
I want to fit a heat shield to my Aceca, which is fitted with the Ford 2.6, Raymond Mays head and triple Webers. Anyone know of a supplier?
I hope that it will reduce the possibility of fuel evaporation when it gets as hot as Hades under the bonnet but also if petrol decides to leak I would rather it landed on the heat shield rather than the exhaust. There are too many stories of fires in the bay at present and a destructive fire is exactly what happened to the Ace that once had the engine et al now in my Aceca.
   Thanks

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / AC Aceca
« on: January 02, 2007, 18:49:02 »
Happy New Year one and all. Enjoy your AC's in 2007

I have just bought a 1955 Aceca that started life in Portugal apparently being purchased by a nobleman. The same gentleman also bought in 1962 an Ace, which he competed in at the Portugal GP (fact or fiction?). Tragically the car caught fire on a European ferry and badly damaged the bodywork.
   This setback did not seem to deter the nobleman who transplanted all the Ace mechanical parts;

   o   2.6 Ford Zephyr engine & ancillaries.
o   Fitted with triple Weber carburettors
   o   A Raymond Mays head CL 28694
   o   Moss gearbox
o   Front wheel disc brakes and rear drums
o   Ace front and rear over-riders
o   15” x 6” Borranni wire wheels (The Ace was the only known AC to have this make of wheel fitted from new. They were transferred to the Aceca)
o   The wheel arches are modestly flared to accommodate the Borranni wheels
o   The suspension has been modified by Chris Lawrence who won his class in 1962 at Le Mans in a Morgan.
   o   Seats & instruments
o   The owner also had the front of the car remodelled as a Ace/Cobra ‘long-nose’, naturally in aluminium

So the question is after having all of this work carried out did the Portuguese nobleman go racing with the car? If so when and where and who is/was he?

I know that the car went to the USA in the mid 1970's and under the ownership of Warren Wegele competed in the VSCCA between 1980 and 2002.

Any help would be really appreciated. Sorry if this has been a bit long winded.

   Thanks
