Wow. I`m sure I`ve seen this Cobra in one or 2 of my Cobra books, will check later.
What are you concerned with in particular, I`m struggling to find anything I don`t like the look of!

I'm just very suspicious of Adds on Ebay.. Lots of photos but non on the Chassis stamps on the chassis or locks.... The description mentions 289 but engine numbers are 260 (if i'm correct) nothing in the 4th edition about a larger engine fitted.. Did the older cars have a chassis plate?

Our Transatlantic Cousins seem much happier using eBay for 'big ticket' items, and this is probably one of the cheapest forms of advertising you can get...
I think the mention of 289 in a couple of places is purely a lack of attention by the writer of the ad, there`s no reference to the engine having been replaced.
The chassis plate was in use from the start, as referenced HERE (http://"http://www.acownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2310"):

But it must be said, the one in 2047 does appear slightly different with different stampings.
If I was spending this much money on a car, I would certainly be booking a flight before parting with any cash, or at the very least, getting an expert over there to pay a visit!

FWIW, this is a later 'reproduction' tag, not one from 1962. [:D]
Besides, CSX2001 would not have had a footbox tag when new. [;)]

Copied from the same thread.. not my words ;-)
-
Yep, my words ;-)
The tag on CSX2047 would not have been there from new, nor was the CSX2047 stamped by AC Cars Ltd.
As far as we know footbox tags began at about CSX22xx.
-
2047 has been owned by Bob Schiro since 1972. Although cars before 22XX were not originally fitted with chassis tags, many were subsequently retrofitted in period with AC supplied chassis tags; 2047's looks correct in all details.
There is no reason on the face of it to doubt this car; inspection, however, is always recommended.

Apologies for misinformation.... post in haste, regret at leisure!

I agree many had tags added in period and I am not casting any doubts on the car. The actual stamping fonts on the tag of CSX2047 are not consistent with known originals stampings done by AC Cars. Ltd. Perhaps stamped by SA or ?
-
As far as I know AC sent 100 or so blanks to Shelby American, who stamped them whenever a tag-less Cobra owner wanted one. SA and AC punch fonts have subtle differences.
Some blank period AC tags still exist, under very secure lock. I have never seen a replica tag that doesn't give the game away (such as, earlier today, the risen-from-the-dead 2015 Goodwood Revival ex Derek Ridler LEC race car).

I am surprised it has taken somebody so long to comment on this car as it has been kicking around ebay........on and off .............for I would reckon about 5 months........is it just the price that has stopped it from selling........I have done a web search and very little comes up........likewise on our forum here.
Someone must have more information on it ?
-
I have been keening an eye on this for a while... it didn't sell at $705k then was re-listed @ $1.25m then the buy it now price kept being reduced??
I can not find any info on this car at all... may be because it has been kept under lock and key??

This car is advertised in more places and for different amounts at different times all in 2015...

I guess the owner is either Crazy or on some serious medication.. ;-)
-
I assume the price of $230,000 buys you the replica version! Either way, it appears someone is in the twilight zone. (I think they used that medication in Easy Rider)
