But is the car documented as an AC? Is it on any registers anywhere? Is there any paper work at all to support the fact that it was actually built by AC? Are we even actually sure that Brain Anglis ever laid eyes on it?

I know nothing about the car other than what I've read on the ebay ad and what I've read on here, but I can't see anything that Guarantees this car is an AC. I can see an awful lot of inuendo that it is this or that, but no Guarantees supported by paper.

It may well have been built by Brain Anglis, it may be everything that is implied, but without a shred of documented proof to its existence it is not (to my mind) an AC. In the catologue description it is termed a Shelby Cobra Re-Creation. So how does the vendor get from recreation all the way through to claiming its an AC? Seems a fairly giant step to me!

But I still thinks its lovely!

It's certainly a very pretty and an unusual car. But where does it sit within the Cobra world. Was it built with the permission of "AC" or not? If it was built before Brian Anglis was licenced to build "AC's" then surely a royalty fee would have had to have been paid and permission granted. If not it's a replica? Just a thought?????? And what was the Japanese business man incarcerated for??? Wouldn't be anything to do with fraud would it????

Another thought is the poor guy who paid $300,000.00 believing it was genuine. I bet he was really narked!

I think if you take the whole history of the car it is really financial bad news! Buying it would be a bit like facing "The Curse of the Mummy" with Carter opening Tutankhamen's tomb!

Before you bid think of all those that have gone before you.....

But when all said and done............... it sure is pretty!

Hi Jim,
thanks for posting that. My car definitely has not got that plate. AK1023 runs on 15" wheels though as opposed to 16". I thought my quest was over, but thanks for the information. Its one of the first MKIV's made and so is probably a little quirky. It also has a 427 side oiler engine. I don't know whether that extra weight will make any difference to the tyre pressures recommended. Any idea's?
   Thanks once again.

Thanks I appreciate that. My car doesnt have a data plate so I've been running on a trial and error basis. Maybe those plates were added on later models. Does the plate contain any more gems of knowledge that would be helpful? Even the cars hand book is a complete waste of time as no real information is contained. I dont suppose theres such a thing as a work shop manual?
   Thanks again

Hi,
I will be going to this event and will probably take my MKIV.. We are though going with the organised tour from the UK.. As we'd never been before I thought it would be the easiest. The accomodation that they have organised I do know is very good.

Ron,
My car AK1023 has black wheels and brass spinners as well. Never quite sure whether the spinners should be polished bright and shiny or not though! So far I've left them unpolished. As the rest of it is "as new" it gives a patina and a little bit of age to the car. What do you do with yours?

I have a wood rim Mota Lita wheel from my 1983 MKIV I no longer require. I bought it a few months ago (so its as new) and have now decided to have it converted to a 60's wheel. I also have an original leather mota lita wheel if anyone wants it. Contact me on rev@fsbdial.co.uk if its of any interest.

Does anyone know how many of these cars were 427 side oilers?

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / LX820 In the Cemetery!!!
« on: January 20, 2015, 17:56:40 »
I've just come across an article written in 1997 that includes a picture of the car in "The Cemetery" in Sao Paulo.

If you look at the photograph caption it Reads "Grave Sight: Bodies in Sao Paulo include this Ferrari 212 or is it a 250S?". So it was mistaken for a Ferrari, but it's definitely LX820. We always refer to it as "The Barchetta" as it must have been a copy of the Ferrari as it is so similar.

I thought there maybe someone who would like to see it. Another small amount of history to add to the cars file.

And finally how it's taking shape.

It's been an incredibly long haul, but we are getting slowly closer to the end. The filler plastered all over the front was later used as the basis for a respray by previous renovators!. We ended up completely removing the body which has now been fully renovated by Shaun Rush of ASR and it's looking really nice. Hopefully on the home straight.

A lovely weekend in Sussex.

Well done to Mike and his family and all that were involved. The weekend was a credit to you all, and it wasn't as damp as I expected it to be!

Strangely George can't spell his own surname at the bottom of the letter.

I have never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I would suggest that George's letter is ignored if you have also been a lucky recipient!
