Cobra (Thames Ditton) Forum / Another Unidentified Cobra
« on: October 12, 2013, 10:51:17 »
There are so many "replicas/copies/ressurections/continuations/ registered as historic vehicles" around around that I sometimes wonder what the name AC actually means and if it has any value when it comes to Cobra's.
I fully understand and the desire to make money and expand a limited supply, but the secrecy around some vehicles, and what seem to me to be deliberate attempts to blur the issue of manufactured date with "historic vehicle registrations" is depressing.
So much so I sometimes think I should dump my MK1V as being a product of an industry trend that disturbs me greatly.
For a long time believer in originality and AC enthusiast, its a depressing situation.

General Forum / ACOC badge on eBay...dodgy description.
« on: September 12, 2013, 12:27:28 »
Hi,I Have just bought the badge referred to here and think its v. good value.
Having trudged fruitlessly around Beulieau auto jumble, after spending many months trying to find one. Seeing the few in ,varying conditions, that have appeared on ebay go for in excess of 100pds in some cases, I am very happy with this "new" item.

Matters not to me if its a copy, or original. I say hats off to anyone who can supply an item which is manifestly in short supply, and, if recently manufactured,is not put off by the spectre of litigation over the use of the logo, that has plagued the club.

Rather wierd, I must say that after all this time searching for a badge, to find that when I went on to eBay early this week, three had come along at once!

Thx for your reply Mr. B

There is a useful precedent maybe.

I am trying to obtain an original historic registration for a car I am tryng to restore, and have to go thorugh the following route before DVLC will consider.

Complete history file demonstration original ownership of reg. no.
That is then submitted to the club registrar for authentication, and from there to DVLC.

I am sure ou are awre of this, but thought I'd mentyion it anyway. DVLC will have to see that there is something in it for them to change, might be a tough sell.

Thx to all  of you who have responded to this query.

Thx again, Flyinghorse, I'll put those two one on the list of things to try out.

Nickjb68, A sensible suggestion, and, like you say, easy and quick.

I should have thought of the two simpler suggestions myself. maybe I'm trying to think too complicated!

I would swap front wheels over & see if the problem moves with the wheel.
The other thing to watch for is the spring perch. I dont know about Mk Iv's but my CRS run's shorter springs and these can be loose when jacked up (ie not in compression) so often the retainers are RTV'd in to stop the assembly coming apart.

Thx for your ideas. The vibration appears to be coming from the front off side quarter, but that could be illusory I suppose. Will work through your suggestion.
The clutch is almost new, uses a Tilton hydraulic actuator within the bell housing. I hope we don't have to search that far!

Nick,
I would suspect rotating parts that can wear. Have you checked the prop & outboard drive shafts & UJ's?

Other area to check would be the brakes-are they all free rotating & not binding.
I assume tyre pressures are good allround and wheels are not warped. (Powder coating heat can do this)
You just have to keep hunting & eliminating as it has to be something!

   Has your clutch been replaced

Thankyou to those who sent responses to this post and my post about dashboard removal.

Erratic temperature readings turned out to be a loose earth contact at rear of the gauge.

I have a 1964 Owners Club badge which I bought for my 4.2 litre Cobra. I was never used for fear of theft and is therefore in mint condition. Have tried to attach photo but without success! Proposed price £55.

Thx REV, your comments appreciated.
Is replacing the VS something I could do?  that is, do I need to be an auto electrician or is it a bolt on replacement?

Have been trying to add picture to a new topic, but seems unable to do so.

Last couple of times I've posted uploading pics was easy.

   Has something changed??
