Leaf Spring Wrapping
« on: November 19, 2022, 16:59:03 »
Hello!
How the leaf spring were wrapped originally?
With cotton gauze or burlap/jute band? Sorry there is any on the car i am working and so i dont know.
How tight the wrapping should be? lose just to avoid dirt entering the leafs or thight in order to somehow alter the reaction of the leafsprings?
the wrapping bands are covered in natural beewax? Paraffine or grease?
normally the leafsprings are wrapped before installation, or after?
Thanks!
Eddie

Hi, I just wrap mine tightly as possible in Denso Tape. It’s nice and cheap, flexible (about 10% stretch) & moulds quite well to the contour of the spring. Messy job though! Don’t know what was originally used?

I think to understand now that the correct wrapping is pipe Petrolatum Tape.
Best,

Yep, that’s Denso tape. Well done!
