I wouldn't pay anything for the BJ connection and am perplexed by those who might. It's just something to mention in passing and nothing more. However this is a nice looking car, in a great colour combo IMO, on 15s and not too much federalisation. The lower estimate with commission is around £70,0000 and the upper around £88,0000. How much do you think the cars are really worth in the auction world? In the UK, I've not heard of any that sold for more than this at auction. Has anyone?

Thanks and that pretty much how mine came back (w/o CRS)

But it's not quite right is it?

I don't know about the Vintage wheel product, but Trigo's are not the same. My car above has one of the last  sets of Hawk's 15" units. Had anybody checked with Gerry at Hawk, that he's not commissioning  production off them, once more?

Hi Constant,

I'm delighted you managed it - well done. Now you can corner hard with confidence - well sort of......[:0]

Hi Contant
I fitted the equivalent of TRW JBJ 252. The ones I received were permanently sealed with grease (no nipple).
If you do it yourself, you must free the nut with the correct ring spanner so as not to damage it. It's one of those jobs, where it's very easy to assemble, but only just possible to disassemble. Once the taper is separated, it's simple and the new part fitted no problem at all.

Sounds the same to me. Lower ball joint. I'm pretty sure for later cars like mine (1993) they are SAAB. Inexpensive and freely available. I have the part no but don't know about 1984 if there were two types.
However, on mine changing them is very awkward as you gave to make tools. The nut that holds the ball joint  taper pin that is extremely difficult to access. You must initially undo it with a ring spanner, or it will round off. Problem is it's not possible to remove the spanner once the nut starts to fully undo. For that you need an open end spanner that you are prepared to cut up to get in there. Also a HD nut splitter.
It took me a several attempts to figure and finally get it out. In the end I resorted to splitter and a blowtorch which worked in the end, albeit with a bang that sounded like a gunshot. Be careful using a blow torch on a ball joint as there's lots of flammable rubber and grease.
Or go to Al and Alec at Thunder Road. They would have done it by the time you get the car on axle stands.

I have a aluminium. MK IV 1993. I researched this extensively before ordering from Avon as I didn't want he car looking undertyred. I went to the trouble of making precise hardboard templates and attached them to my 15" wheels and checked the rolling clearance empirically in all steering positions.

I concluded and fitted with no problems.

   Rear Avon ZX 275/55/R15

There are great benefits to this combination, in as much as both front and rear are the same diameters and look great. The front 65 profile as opposed to the commonly fitted 60 is a full inch bigger in diameter, which will give you more ground clearance and as well as a more period high profile look.

There are no wheel arch rubbing issues whatsoever and my car being late model, did not require bending the steering arms. I do more mileage than most on my MK IV, covering 6000 miles last year all over Europe.

I can only speak for my car. Don't be tempted to fit 295 on the back, they will be too tight.

Order direct from Avon and ask for competition discount.

I'm near London if you want to see for yourself, or you can borrow the templates if you want.

Thanks Uwe,

I am pleased to hear the 331 has good low end torque that's what I require, not top end. I presume compression is 10:1 and you are using hyd roller, AFR 185 heads with 2.02/1.6 vales. Also that the T5 is a good plan. Did you keep standard clutch actuation, or modify/hydraulic?
Did you have any problems with vacuum for the brakes? If no problem, the cam must be minimal overlap and in that case, were you happy with the sound at idle?
My only other option is a big project to fit the 427 FE. I have found a 1960s example. But it means footwell modifications, exhaust and heat will be a real problem to solve, not so good around corners and really just using the car for special occasions.
If your prefer you can PM me on my email address on my profile.

Hi, I'm looking at a Keith Craft 331/347 for my std MK IV and not sure on carb or EFI, so can I ask you some questions please?

Was the 331 the right choice over the 347 do you think?
Has the MSD Atomic EFI been reliable?
What highway and city mpg or  km / litre do you get, now the motor has been well used?
Did you keep the T5 transmission and if so, has that been okay?
What was the final hp and torque?
Are you happy with the change and do you have any further advice?

   Many thanks!

Thanks for that helpful reply Paul. You say your s/b idles in this range. Can I presume you've actually tested that?

Hi Neil. If it is the grey ones, the ad states size 7 x 15 only, but if you have obtained additionAl info thanks for clearing that up.

There are two sets of cobra wheels on EBay UK @ £1000.

One set is FIA style with spline drive, not suitable for peg drive MK IV's.

The other, seemingly grey powder coated all over (why?) are peg drive. However, ad suggests all four apparently 7.5" wide. If so that's not a set. MK IV's take 7.5 fronts and 9.5 rears.

The set on ebay.com, priced in $ are 16" not 15"
