Ace Transmission - Need Help Identifying
« on: August 06, 2012, 21:12:06 »
I have this transmission from an Ace, but the input shaft is not for an AC engine.  Does anyone recognize from the photo what it might fit?

The cap for the seal has had a piece brazed onto it to help support the shaft.  I have a number of Ace transmissions, but none of them have this shaft so I'm not sure what it's for.

   Any help would be appreciated.

Dimensions of the pilot shaft and the input shaft spline would help.

The shaft sure looks similiar to an MGA input shaft, kown as an 8-10-1, or 8" disc, 10 spline shaft & 1"shaft dia. What engine did this come with?, Ace or Bristol. need more details,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bernie

The pilot shaft is .590" (15 mm) and the input shaft spline is 1.125" with ten splines. Bigger than an MGA.
I'm trying to determine what engine it could fit. Not an AC as it's the wrong input shaft, not a Bristol as they didn't use the Moss box.
Maybe the 2.6? or possibly someone mated an AC tranny to a V8 to make a poor man's Cobra. Its later than an earlier AC trans that I have (probably Bucklands origin)as it has later sliding forks.

   Thanks for the help

The pilot shaft and spline dimensions match my Borg Warner T-10 from the early 60's. These boxes fit GM V8's including the small block Chevys and the BOP 215 that became the Rover.
