General Forum / what happened to Dec Action Another missing one?

Constant, Yes, I too am grateful to all those who put effort into the club, but I am a member of five clubs and although most of them have gone through upheavals at one time or another, they have all, without exception, managed to keep the monthly/quarterly club magazine on time, even if the content dwelt mainly on the troubles within. I am perfectly content (though you might not think so!!) for it to be a little late, but this latest situation is trying ones patience. I also think that the situation has gradually been getting out of hand over the past year, with ACtion getting later and later. Was the writing not on the wall??
I feel I must comment on your statement that they are doing a good job. I think that to get to the end of January and to have had no Action since November, and with very little, if any explanation as to why, is not exactly 'a good job'

Keith, Why doesn't having a rant help promote discussion that can lead to a range of options, and onto addressing problems?  If you think everyone with constructive criticism is going to make the journey to the capital to attend the committee meetings, you are mistaken.
Our Chairman's opening line from his most recent post regarding the non-appearance of ACtion -'Houston, we have a problem' generally precedes announcing a catastrophe!!! From this, I take it there are problems - so comments should be expected. The stock replies to any criticism seem to be 'We're all volunteers' and 'come to the committee meeting' as If that actually answers anything!
As to your comment 'Many of us ( All volunteers) organise events often investing hundreds of hours and hundreds of £sss ( not charged to ACOC ) for the benefit of other ACOC members and enthusiasts' is concerned, I quote from my recent rant - 'And please don't anybody criticise me for ranting and doing nothing - I was Aceca registrar for 8 years and spent many many long evenings getting it into shape.'

Unless otherwise prompted to fully outline my dissatisfaction with aspects of OUR club, I'll leave it there, as I don't want to generalise and offend those club members who's fellowship I treasure.
I am at the point of selling my Aceca and severing all ties with the club. That is how I feel, and having heard the comments from the many people I spoke to at November's sprint, I am not alone.

So, 2 months since this post and 1 reply. 195 people have read it, but they, apart from Morgy, have no comment. For the club's only  competitive event, it is a sad reflection of the state of affairs within the club. Does nobody have any views/ideas/comments/criticisms/praise or anything???? or are we (the club, that is) going to just let it shrivel and eventually die???
Making suggestions doesn't mean that you will automatically be rail-roaded in being part of the organising team, but some suggestion would, i'm sure, give those who spend their time and give their effort some encouragement. What with the cock-up with last year's supposed International in Spain and the indifference to other efforts to arrange something, along with the disappearance of ACtion, I don't hold out much hope for the continuance of our club. And please don't anybody criticise me for ranting and doing nothing - I was Aceca registrar for 8 years and spent many many long evenings getting it into shape.
If this addition to my original post gets no constructive response, then I may well give up and continue to enjoy a proper car club like what the MTWC and the FNCC am!!!!!

As a point of interest, as well as my Aceca, I have a PVT Riley special and a 1924 AJS 'Big port' vintage motorcycle insured through Brian Gilbart-Smith.

I've got a sectional view of the general arrangement of the locking collet for this type of steering wheel assembly if it may help you? I can't be doing with uploading photos onto this forum, but if you text me your email address, I'll send you a photo of what you are dealing with should you decide to have it apart to inspect. I feel that unless something is broken in the collet arrangement, a good clean may well solve the problem. My mobile is 07966284689

I strongly disagree with the last line of the above post.

I think that it may bode well for current owners of MK4s who are considering selling, the actual cars themselves have no sentience.
I also think that the advertisement heading stating '1966' is typical of a 'price hiking spiv'

I sold my almost identical RHD car 2 years ago for 68kGBP so unless a well heeled moron buys it, it will never achieve the asking price.

If indeed prices of all ACs climb to the extent that only Bill Gates can afford them, our club will eventually be populated only by the very very very rich investors, and as we know, they will not want to run our club on a voluntary basis. This will mean the end of the ACOC.
So endeth my first and, probably not my last rant of the year.
   Comments please.

I was told when I enquired about the availability of square-cornered Aceca screens, that Brasscraft can supply screens and Ace frames?

Very interesting. popped out and had a look, and found that -
Front carb - no plug, but it appears that the hole is blocked further in. Also it appears that there is no thread in the hole for a screw-in plug.
   Middle carb - plugged
   Rear carb - as front

I notice that in the photo above, the hole on the carb on the right is threaded and the one on the left isn't. Though maybe it's badly lit?

One problem with the round chassis tubes is that extreme care must be taken when incrementally jacking up the front and rear in stages. On one occasion, when I was being a little over optimistic, it spat out the axle stand one one side! luckily it was the early stages and the wheels were still on and the axle stand fell over and didn't impale itself through anything. I am now super cautious during lifting the car, something which can usually be avoided as I have an inspection pit.
My advice is never remove the wheels unless you are certain everything is fine and dandy.
I have one of the roller type alloy jacks and had to replace the seals in it after 6 months! it would suddenly start to lower with no warning. I do the air purge whereby, with the valve open, one pumps the handle through it's full range 20 times, bloody nuisance, but it seems to help.
I also made a lipped plate that fits onto the lifting platform of the jack. On it I fabricated half piece of tube about 100mm long that matches the diameter of the chassis tubes. Then stuck a piece of thin rubber to save marking the chassis. I did this to give a secure positioning for the jack and it can't slip off. It also self-aligns and enables safe jack positioning as it's difficult to sight under a low car to exactly where it's lined up.
If your chassis is covered in filth/oil/crud a piece of rubber twixt chassis and axle stand can induce slippage once any angle  other than a perfect 90 degs is surpassed.
Who'd of thought there was so much to getting a car up in the air!

This merits a new thread, as I feel it may swamp this one.
