Light switches

(1/2) > >>

IanBrown:
Hello,
Does anyone know the make/type of switches used for the lights?
Did they switch to Lucas toggle switches at any point?
Regards
Ian

BE774:
If I recall correctly they were sourced from the Jaguar XJ6 of the period, and they were crap from new. I experienced complete headlight failure at night and it was not funny. I would start with David Manners or SNG Barret and see what it available.

Yes, they area early XJ6 push-push switches.  Lucas part numbers are head: 30870A; side: 30869A; fog: 30868A; rear fog: 33878A.

There is nothing wrong with the switches but AC failed to put a relay in the circuit so all the current goes through the switch hence they can burn out as Graham mentions!  Ian Winter came up with a plug in adaptor which adds a relay, reduces the current through the switch and increases the light output from the headlamps.  I'll dig out the article and put it on the Members' Area.

They never used toggle switches.

Article now on the 3000ME page:

Members' Area -> Model Directory -> 3000ME -> Articles -> Headlamp Relays and Overhaul

IanBrown:
Hello,
Am still struggling to find anyone supplying the switches.
Could somebody please take a photo of the four switches and send it to me at ianbrow.gen@gmail.com. I have a technical person at Lucas that may be able to help if he can see what they should look like.
Thanks
Ian
